Goofy People And Gun Control

"Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." -Albert Einstein

I love NewsWithViews.  Some of the authors there come up with truly brilliant articles.  One of those is from Larry Pratt, Executive Director of Gun Owners of America, and his article entitled, “What do they put in the Water?” Some times you just have to shake your head at the lack of logic politicians use to get their way. Here is one of those articles which details those foolish and, how do I say this, stupid old men in political office.

I loved this article so much I wrote to Mr. Pratt and asked him if I could repost it here in its entirety. He gave me permission to do so. For your reading pleasure, here is his article.

When a New York City mayor does something goofy, a normal reaction is: “there they go again.” When another mayor does the same thing years later, an additional thought comes to mind. Namely, “what do they put in the water there?”

In the early 90s when Mayor David Dinkins was in office, a Utah tourist was murdered by a knife-wielding assailant. The next day, Mayor Dinkins held a news conference saying that the previous day’s violence meant that additional gun control was needed in New York. (emphasis mine)

Fast forward to the wannabe car bomber who through no thanks to the authorities failed to carry out his murderous mission. The following week, Mayor Michael Bloomberg went to Washington to testify for a horrendous bill sponsored by that enemy of freedom, NJ’s Sen. Frank Lautenberg. The bill? A gun control bill.

Speaking at the hearing, Bloomberg said: “It is imperative that Congress close this terror gap in our gun laws — and close it quickly. The car bomb the NYPD found in Times Square on Saturday night was not the only attempted terrorist attack on our city since 9/11 — far from it. And sadly, it won’t be the last.”

Hmm, so let’s have some more gun control because there was a car bomb in New York City. Talk about a non sequitur.

But wait, it does not seem to be just New York mayors who are loony. Congressional Democrats had the same reaction to the bombing of the Oklahoma City federal building. Maybe we need to understand that for the citizen disarmament supporters, any excuse is a good excuse to grab the sovereign people’s guns.

In Bloomberg’s case, he was after a lot more than disarmament. The bill he supports also aims at one of the most important bulwarks of liberty, namely, due process. Lautenberg wants to enable the faceless maintainers of the Terrorist Watch List to use the list to deny gun sales to anyone they choose.

No one ever gets to face their accuser when it comes to the Terrorist Watch List. Nameless trolls in law enforcement agencies can add any name they want. Otherwise, how else to explain the addition of the late Sen. Edward Kennedy to the list? (emphasis mine) There is no way to get off the list (unless, like Sen. Kennedy, you can call the head of the Homeland Insecurity Agency).

Seeing how ruthless the Chicago-style political thuggery of the Obama administration is, it is not hard to imagine that all their political enemies would end up on the Watch List. In September, 2008, Secretary Janet Napolitano announced that she had zeroed in on the terrorist threat in the U.S. by releasing a publication entitled: Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence in Radicalization and Recruitment. The resurgence threat, of course, comes from returning veterans, pro-lifers, Second Amendment advocates and constitutionalists in general, the report explained. Police were to approach such people with extra precautions.

Not once has the Obama gang issued an analysis of the 1400 years of Islamic terror and conquest and its contemporary threat posed by jihadi thugs. Mayor Bloomberg’s speculation about who the wannabe car bomber might be before he was apprehended and confessed suggested that we would probably find that he was a 40-year old loner white guy who did not like ObamaCare. Oops, Faisal Shahzad is a 30-something naturalized Pakistani Muslim extremist. And, double oops, he made over a dozen trips to be trained by the Pakistani Taliban who have praised his attempt.

While the Beltway Sniper murders were taking place, you may recall that police were looking for a 40-something white guy and a loner. How disappointing for the politically correct that it was a couple of black guys who had trained at a Muslim jihad camp in southwestern Virginia.

The domestic gun control advocate has always had a love for appeasement at home and abroad. No guns for self-defense, and no resistance to jihadi murderers. As Governor of Arizona, Janet Napolitano declared that there was no border problem in her state. Where does she think the real problem lies? Well, it’s those angry Tea Party types, of course!

A related item suggests that Secretary Napolitano has imposed an affirmative action program for the entire Department of Homeland Insecurity. Namely, all key personnel must be as vision challenged (we used to say blind) as is the Secretary. Faisal Shahzad was on the terrorist watch list while he was being naturalized. I bet if they found a membership card for Gun Owners of America he would not have been naturalized.

Let’s say it. Sen. Lautenberg and Mayor Bloomberg and the like are far more interested in depriving citizens of the means of self-defense than they are in effective counter-terrorism measures.

Seriously folks, what does a car bomb and gun control have to do with each other? How will a stabbing be prevented by increasing the gun laws? And we PAY these people? I begin to wonder if common sense has died along with so many other things in life.

More important to note is the lack of State responsibility.  Instead of running to the feds, Mayor Bloomberg should have been training his police officers better.  Instead of abdicating his authority he should have grabbed the reins and taken control of his city.  Let’s look at the 10th Amendment from the Constitution:

U.S. Constitution: Tenth Amendment

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The 10th Amendment to the Constitution, known as the State’s amendment, is very simple but it means that the whatever powers the Constitution DOESN’T SPECIFY to the federal government, (and it is quite explicit in defining those powers), are reserved for the States and the People of those States. Nowhere in the Constitution does it give congress the authority to make a law binding to all States unless that law is ratified by each of the States.  It is time to remember some history!

Watch this video:

Read the article there to better understand what the relationship is between the States and the federal government.  The States are the power opposite the federal government.  We are equals, not lessor servants.  Understand that the media and the Supreme Court are both puppets of the federal government and we should NOT allow this continued abuse to go on.

Is it any wonder that the Courts today do not want to hear about the 10th Amendment?  So how does the 10th Amendment apply to guns and laws about guns?  One has only to see what Montana has done.  Sick of the federal government messing with their guns Montana decided to exempt the unfair taxation and restrictions on the State’s gun owners.  Montana started a trend that many States have since picked up on.  Arizona is working on its own exemption.

Arizona has done the same thing with our SB 1070.  Now, 10 other States are considering mirroring that law within their own borders.  We the People are sick to death of the continued assault on our freedoms. A State’s right to legislate its own affairs within its own borders was the most basic of freedoms.

Our Guardian against Tyranny

The Nullification Act:

Nullification (U.S. Constitution)

Nullification is a legal theory that a U.S. State has the right to nullify, or invalidate, any federal law which that state has deemed unconstitutional. The theory is based on a view that the sovereign States formed the Union, and as creators of the compact hold final authority regarding the limits of the power of the central government. Under this, the compact theory, the States and not the Federal Bench are the ultimate interpreters of the extent of the national Government’s power. A more extreme assertion of state sovereignty than nullification is the related action of secession, by which a state terminates its political affiliation with the Union.

One of the earliest and most famous examples is to be found in the Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions, a protest against the Alien and Sedition Acts. In these resolutions, authors Thomas Jefferson and James Madison argued that the states are the ultimate interpreters of the Constitution and can “interpose” to protect state citizens from the operation of unconstitutional national laws.

This is not a theory, it was mandated and reaffirmed by each State which has declared again their Sovereignty. No State gave up its authority when it signed up to join the union. The 10th Amendment is the vehicle by which each State defends itself and its Citizens against unconstitutional laws created by those in DC.  Nullification is the proper vehicle and doesn’t require the States to Secede from the union.  I would prefer our union didn’t break apart while we deal with the abuses of the federal government.

Some examples of how the federal government has overstepped its authority are:

Passage of the Health Care Bill mandating who you MUST purchase insurance from certain insurers and what constitutes a valid insurer.  The federal government doesn’t have the right to promote the sale products from specific companies.  Nor can it legally enforce fines for failure of the Sovereign Citizens to comply.  Nor can it usurp the authority of the States in this area.  There is no-where in the Constitution that allows congress to make such a mandate.

Another example is the passage of tax hikes on one portion of the populace.  While many will believe that this is not their problem, that it only pertains to smokers, the incredible tax hikes, (over 2,000% in some cases), against tobacco and tobacco products has opened the door for tax hikes in other areas such as those who choose to drink soda pop.  This is patently illegal.  What follows this act will be a license for congress to abuse tax payers in all walks of life.  Smokers have been warning of this for the past 25 years.  What we have warned you of is coming to pass.

Section. 8.

Clause 1: The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

Taxing only one section of the public is a direct assault on our freedoms, and violates this clause of the Constitution.  There can be no other interpretation of excessive taxation on a segment of the population.  And just as Montana stepped up for Gun owners, States should step up for smokers.  Popular or not, once the door is open the slippery slop is hard to navigate.

Each abuse of federal power we allow leads to another. Passion is a key force behind what we fight for and what we ignore. But I tell you this, ignoring ANY abuse, even if it doesn’t affect you personally, will lead to abuses in other areas.  Your freedom to posses and use firearms is as important to me, even though I don’t own a gun, as my freedom to NOT pay extortion taxes.  Each is protected by our Constitution and prohibits the federal government from abusing its authority.  This very abuse is threatening to tear this country apart.

The federal government will fight to keep what power it thinks it has over the States and the Citizens of this country.  We the People have been asleep for too long, too complacent, too content and only now do we awaken.  The abuses run deep.  Illegal war, the head of ICE refusing to enforce illegal aliens deportation,  the attempts to disarm the Citizens of this country, NAIS, S. 510, and so many other abuses are bringing this country to crisis.  What will happens depends on the Citizens and States in the union.  The power is within us.
