Monsanto, A Killer Corporation

molecularmachineA new study out proves that Genetically Modified foods are a health hazard and should be removed from our diets and the environment.  The study conducted by American Academy of Environmental Medicine states that lab tests done on rats have shown the following severe health issues:

  1. Infertility
  2. Immune dysregulation
  3. Accelerated aging
  4. Dysregulation of genes associated with cholesterol synthesis
  5. Insulin Regulation
  6. Cell Signaling
  7. Protein Formation
  8. Changes in the Liver
  9. Changes in Kidney
  10. Changes in spleen
  11. Changes in Gastrointestinal System

Criteria used to evaluate GM/GMO foods are done under strict scientific conditions. Cause is found using the Hill’s Criteria of Causation. According to this scientific process, there is more than just a slight or casual association between GM/GMO foods and adverse health effects.  Study after study done on animals leads scientists to believe that these same adverse effects will also happen to human beings.

Adverse health effects include obesity, allergies, asthma, and inflammation.  Animal studies also show altered structure and function of the liver, including altered lipid and carbohydrate metabolism as well as cellular changes that could lead to accelerated aging and possibly lead to the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Changes in the kidney, pancreas and spleen have also been documented. A recent 2008 study links GM corn with infertility, showing a significant decrease in offspring over time and significantly lower litter weight in mice fed GM corn. This study also found that over 400 genes were found to be expressed differently in the mice fed GM corn. These are genes known to control protein synthesis and modification, cell signalling, cholesterol synthesis, and insulin regulation. Studies also show intestinal damage in animals fed GM foods, including proliferative cell growth and disruption of the intestinal immune system. ‘

Whether the FDA will listen or not is another matter all together.  Cleaning up this agency is a gargantuan project that money special interest groups such as Monsanto will make virtually impossible.  Assume that anything with corn in it these days is of GM origin.  With all the commercials lately for viagra products it would seem that it is already having an effect on male reproductive dysfunction.   And, if Monsanto has its way, wheat and rice will be part of our diet as well.

For example, in a paper published in November of 2008 Italian researchers concluded that “the consumption of [Bt] MON810 maize…induced alterations in intestinal and peripheral immune response of weaning and old mice. Although the significance of these data remains to be clarified to establish whether these alterations reflect significant immune dysfunctions, these results suggest the importance of considering the gut and peripheral immune response to the whole GM crop, as well as the age, in the GMO safety evaluation” (p. 11537 Finamore, A. et al., 2008). This study illustrates the importance of testing animals at appropriate stages of their lifecycles.

And the list goes on and on. Why then are GMO foods still on the market? Why is it that the FDA refuses to allow packaging to list whether or not a food or by product is of GM origins???  Money of course!  Monsanto uses all of its might and money to keep the production of GM foods on the market and the public blind as to what their products contain.  The idea is to take over the natural food production and replace it with GM foods.  A list of those companies who are taking steps to eliminate all GM products from their suppliers can be found HERE:

Americans stand no chance for getting rid of GM/GMO foods with everyone being bought off and hiding the real science. One must look to the internet to get the facts, and those can be distorted if you are not careful. Trusting anything the FDA or Monsanto says is likely to kill you or someone you know. For now, assume anything with corn in it is tainted with GM products or DNA. And unless you know your local dairyman, assume that milk is too.

According to Financial Sense.com, doctors across the country have issued a statement declaring that a moratorium be placed on all GM/GMO foods.

The American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) has just issued a call for an immediate moratorium on Genetically Manipulated (GMO) Foods. In a just-released position paper on GMO foods, the AAEM states that ‘GM foods pose a serious health risk’ and calls for a moratorium on GMO foods. Citing several animal studies, the AAEM concludes ‘there is more than a casual association between GMO foods and adverse health effects’ and that ‘GM foods pose a serious health risk in the areas of toxicology, allergy and immune function, reproductive health, and metabolic, physiologic and genetic health.’ The report is a devastating blow to the multibillion dollar international agribusiness industry, most especially to Monsanto Corporation, the world’s leading purveyor of GMO seeds and related herbicides.

The paper further states that Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) technology ‘abrogates natural reproductive processes, selection occurs at the single cell level, the procedure is highly mutagenic and routinely breeches genera barriers, and the technique has only been used commercially for 10 years.’

The original article was a b**ch to find!  While most articles linked to the article above, I had to search for an hour to find the original from which this article was written.  What a pain in the a**!  So, the original article can be found here:  I can’t tell you just how annoyed I am when I cannot find the original article!  Why don’t people link to that instead of some mass produced one? So why was there no press on this? Why the silence and the cover-up of the media? These aren’t just farmers or your neighbor down the street, these are knowledgeable physicians who have studied the situation.  The plot seems to be to get these farmers locked into a cycle of getting seeds directly from Monsanto, then Monsanto goes after them for fees due directly to the use of the seeds.  As the grounds get used to the herbicide resistant soy and other GMO products the weeds get more and more resistant also.  It is a vicious circle that Monsanto and others profit from while the earth herself suffers as nutrients are ripped from the soil.  Soil color goes from rich black to lifeless gray.

Much has been heard of MASAHARU KAWATA Assistant Professor, School of Science, Nagoya University, Japan and his review of Monsanto’s flawed science with regard to soybeans.  His report can be found HERE: Thankfully the report has been translated into English for those of us who don’t speak Japanese.  Professor Kawata did painstaking research in evaluation Monsanto’s claims of *equal to* the original plants. Some of his findings are highly disturbing. Consider the following excerpts:

(3) A mystery of “The samples used for analysis and animal dietary test were cultivated without herbicide application”.

The Roundup Ready soybean marketed is usually applied with the herbicide Roundup. But surprisingly enough, our inspection revealed that both the gene modified soybean 40-3-2 strain and conventional strain A5403 were NOT sprayed with Roundup herbicide in their cultivation. Monsanto produced only small amount sample with Roundup on the side to test residual glyphosate in the harvested forage, hay and seed. All the soybean of a few thousand kilograms used in safety experiments was harvested not sprayed. The reason is not stated in the documents.

The data obtained with such samples may be therefore not valid to guarantee safety of soybean that human and animals take in the real life, not just because of the residue glyphosate is a toxin to kill plants by inhibiting plant enzyme EPSPS. Effects on other metabolic pathway must be taken into account particularly when such artificial genes are inserted. For consumers, the test results using different sample than marketed soybean may be meaningless.

(4)Incomplete analysis of introduced protein CP4EPSPS.

It is expected that CP4EPSPS protein expressed in the bio-engineered soybean have the same amino acid sequence as the soil bacterium from which the gene was originated. This can only be verified when soybean produced protein is isolated and the amino acid sequence is determined, because exchanging genes between bacteria and higher organism can sometimes result in partial amino acid change and/or post-translational modification after expression. Before inspection we presumed that amino acid sequence of soybean CP4EPSPS was determined. However, to my surprise, it was not.

What Monsanto has determined was only 15 amino acids from N-terminal of the protein, which was expressed in E.coli. The rest of the sequence was presumed one from the nucleotide sequence of the bacterial DNA. Then only 3.3% of expected total of 455 amino acids was decided, and the protein is not of soybean! ELISA test described in the documents is the only method to verify antigenic equivalence of proteins. But antigenic similarity itself does not prove the amino acid sequences are the same. The true face of CP4EPSPS protein in the soybean that we are taking is still unknown.

It is clear that the FDA and Monsanto lied about GM/GMO foods. Wherever possible, we should avoid these products like the plague! Monsanto refuses to address any of these issues and the FDA continues to maintain that there are NO differences between GM/GMO and regular agriculture products.  Professor Kawata goes much deeper into his analysis of the false and faulty data Monsanto released and the FDA sucked up as fact.  All consumers should become aware of and read the facts by these impartial sites concerned with consumer health.

Amazingly, most of the links referencing GM/GMO foods on the FDA website come up with *Page Not Found* errors.  Some of them contain links to articles of the same name and so one has to assume that the original articles were moved from one server to another.  However, some key documents are simply missing.  View the list HERE: It makes me wonder if the FDA is rethinking their position on GM/GMO foods.  As for their policy statement, it seems to be gone…

Articles covering everything from cancer producing milk in Florida with the bovine hormone enhancer,  (rBGH), from Monsanto, to cloned meat,  to rice and corn documents are available on the web from various sites.  With the evidence mounting, why is the FDA still so sure that GM/GMO foods are safe?  All the evidence points in the opposite direction…  But then, we all know what money can buy.

One of the most important paragraphs from the original study says this:

Therefore, because GM foods pose a serious health risk in the areas of toxicology, allergy and immune function, reproductive health, and metabolic, physiologic and genetic health and are without benefit, the AAEM believes that it is imperative to adopt the precautionary principle, which is one of the main regulatory tools of the European Union environmental and health policy and serves as a foundation for several international agreements. The most commonly used definition is from the 1992 Rio Declaration that states: “In order to protect the environment, the precautionary approach shall be widely applied by States according to their capabilities. Where there are threats of serious or irreversible damage, lack of full scientific certainty shall not be used as a reason for postponing cost-effective measures to prevent environmental degradation.

GMO foods are without benefit! That about says it all doesn’t it?
