If stupidity got us into this mess, then why can't it get us out? Will Rogers
For FY 2010 the FDA is seeking to increase its user fees and other budgetary concerns. The FDA claims that these increases in user fees will not unduly influence its decisions concerning new drugs and will maintain its ability to keep the public safe. Considering all the bad food and bad drugs in the news lately, do you feel like the FDA is keeping you safe??? Lawmakers are also concerned. All doesn’t smell of roses in the FDA…
A conflict of interest is defined this way: “We can define a conflict of interest as a situation in which a person has a private or personal interest sufficient to appear to influence the objective exercise of his or her official duties as, say, a public official, an employee, or a professional.” (Source: Chris MacDonald, Michael McDonald, and Wayne Norman, “Charitable Conflicts of Interest”, Journal of Business Ethics 39:1-2, 67-74, August 2002. (p.68))
The FDA considers any food that helps people and is advertised as healthful but not regulated or approved by the FDA in advance as being an unlicensed drug. The definitions of this organization MUST be changed. If you want to read a perfect example of a pompous ass, read the letter! Here is an excerpt:
“Based on claims made on your product’s label, we have determined that your Cheerios Toasted Whole Grain Oat Cereal is promoted for conditions that cause it to be a drug,” the FDA said in a letter to General Mills which was posted on the federal agency’s website Tuesday.
Cheerios labels claim that eating the cereal can help lower bad cholesterol, a risk factor for coronary heart disease, by four percent in six weeks.
Oh, brother! I smacked my head and said, “OH of course it is a drug!!! How could I have been so stupid to not have seen that I am drugging myself with cereal!” I’m sure I’m not the only one. A simple google search will reveal thousands of articles on this very subject. It is truly pathetic that the FDA approves drugs which kill thousands each month but must declare cereal to be a drug! The full letter can be read at the link above starting with *Based on…* It makes me just want to slap the shit out of this W. Charles Becoat Director Minneapolis District until he gets a clue about what his job actually is… If this government entity would spend more time actually doing their own work instead of messing around where they aren’t needed or wanted, life for all of us would get a whole lot better and maybe 3,000 people a month wouldn’t die from bad drugs the FDA IS approving!!!
But Cheerios is NOT alone. The FDA is continually stifling the science behind natural foods and making sure the American Public doesn’t get the facts that science knows. Take Cherries for example. I used the search criteria:”Cherry growers silenced by FDA” Thousands of articles showed up. These are just a few of those I found on credible site after site:
It might surprise you to learn that eating cherries may help reduce risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes, one of the nation’s fastest growing epidemics.
A recent study conducted by University of Michigan researchers and led by Steven F. Bolling, M.D., showed diets enriched with tart cherries significantly lowered insulin and fasting glucose levels, key markers for the development of type 2 diabetes. The amount of cherries used in the animal study could equate to reasonable amounts in a human diet.
Click here for Dr. Bolling’s Q&A revealing more information about how cherries might play a role in reducing risk factors for type 2 diabetes. Scroll down to read more about Dr. Bolling.
That site alone has more than 3 other links on it all about cherry facts and the science behind it. It should be a no-brainer to realize that the FDA doesn’t care about your health, only about the money that they can squeeze out of the big drug companies and you or they will shut down ANY health claim they don’t personally endorse, (they don’t make money on other people’s claims, only on what their scientists do).
Then there are the antioxidant properties of tart cherries. Antioxidants are those things which clean up the free radicals in your body, pollutants from the environment, toxic chemicals, car exhaust, etc. and force them out of your body. Antioxidants are also known as anti-aging chemicals. Found naturally in some fruits and vegetables, the more you eat the healthier you are. But don’t let it be mentioned or the FDA comes down like a landslide on a fence post! (And with about as much intelligence!)
Twelve healthy adults, aged 18 to 25 years, were randomly assigned to eat either one and a half cups or three cups of frozen tart cherries. Researchers analyzed participants’ blood and urine at regular intervals after they ate the cherries and found increased antioxidant activity for up to 12 hours after eating cherries.
“This study documents for the first time that the antioxidants in tart cherries do make it into the human bloodstream and is coupled with increased antioxidant activity that could have a positive impact,” said Sara L. Warber, MD, Co-Director of University of Michigan Integrative Medicine and principal investigator of the study. “And, while more research is needed, what’s really great is that a reasonable amount of cherries could potentially deliver benefits, like reducing risk factors for heart disease and inflammation.“
If the cherry growers try to say this though the FDA will come down on them and threaten them with lawsuits, confiscate their orchards, or condemn the claims and say it is a drug and therefore illegal to sell or say without FDA approval. Do you feel safer knowing the FDA is working for your good now??? I’m not sure about you, but I smell a dirty rat here…
I even found an Q and A that says there is evidence that cherries help stop gout. That’s a huge plus for those that suffer from this disease. There seems to be no end to what a little tart cherry can do for the body. But the FDA will not endorse any claims of this nature nor allow and claims to be made without their approval which then makes a natural food into a drug they can regulate. (Question here, Why doesn’t the FDA investigate Cherries and make their own claim???) It is high time to reform the FDA!!! Click on the link to find out what else you should know about the FDA. It isn’t just about silencing valuable research or claiming beneficial foods are drugs if the truth gets out.
There is a real scientific revolution taking place at the intersection of food, food extracts, and food supplements. Solid, peer reviewed scientific research is pouring forth from reputable research institutions, especially research universities such as Harvard, Stanford, and the like.
This research suggests that changes in diet could reduce both heart disease and cancer by as much as 90%. (For example, see Archives of Internal Medicine, Oct 22, 2007; 167(19): 2122-7.) Alzheimers too by a significant but still to be determined percentage (Neurology, 2007:69:1921-30).
Harvard and Stanford are not just a poke in the eye school without long term accreditation! These are where the doctors of tomorrow study and learn, where current research is being done for the health of humanity.
Health professionals and researchers have long known that cherries pack a powerful nutrition punch and are linked to many health benefits. Here’s what some of them have to say about the emergence of cherries as the new “Super Fruit.”
Article after article can be found and each with their own expert in the science behind the claims. Just wait until the FDA gets a hold of this, you won’t be seeing these anymore afterwards! There needs to be limits set to what the FDA can regulate like the everyday foods we’ve eaten for longer than recorded history! And the FDA shouldn’t be able to silence scientifically based claims for natural foods and herbal supplements just because they didn’t do the study or research themselves.
Congress has had several chances to make things right but has refused to do so. As early as 2005 Representative Ron Paul has been trying to get the Health Freedom Protection Act passed. Starting out as H.R. 4282 in the 109th Congress, the bill was sent to committee and never made it out. And those committees are..?
House Energy and Commerce
House Energy and Commerce, Subcommittee on Health
This is a bill that is desperately needed! The most current version of this bill is H.R. 2117 but it is from 2007. Nothing has been done since as far as I can tell. It is a sad shame that Congress cannot do what is good for We the People! SHAME on CONGRESS! One day this will bite those fools up there in the ass. You can bet on it. We the People are getting sick and tired of these fools passing legislation they don’t read which is horrible! They table bills that would benefit us and they never get out of committee. Is there anyone out there who still thinks that either the Democrats or the Republicans are anything but the greatest hoax in America?
Vermont is taking a lead stance here though. The Vermont legislature has passed a bill that would make it so that any gifts or donations made by drug companies would have to be fully disclosed. It is a step in the right direction. If these drug company gift recipients have to disclose what they get and what it is for, then maybe, just maybe, some honesty and transparency will come about. You see, the Vermont legislature noticed a distinct increase, (8.7%) in the amount of drug costs as well as over the counter medications between 2002 and 2007. In the bill:
(a) The general assembly finds that the legislative findings in Sec. 1 of No. 80 of the Acts of 2007 provide a sound basis for instituting a ban of certain gifts to prescribers and disclosure of marketing activities as provided for in this act. Findings (1) through (8), (13), (15), (17), (19), and (21) shall be
incorporated into this act by reference.
(b) The general assembly also finds:
(1) In 2007, Vermonters spent an estimated $572 million on prescription and over-the-counter drugs and nondurable medical supplies. In 2002, spending was about $377 million. Between 2002 and 2007, the average annual increase in spending was 8.7 percent, which is slightly higher than the average increase in overall health care spending during this same period.
Click on the * Vermont * link above to read the full bill. A good article about the bill can be found in the NYTimes business section. Click HERE: Every State needs to enact a bill like this. Time to make the medical profession come clean about how and why they prescribe medications.
On top of all of this deceit and fraud and just plain censorship and power grabbing, the FDA is wanting MORE money to boot! For some reason, they believe they need, and should receive more than $3.2 BILLION dollars, (Your Money!!!) to continue these practices. Doesn’t that make you feel great? I just wanna kick someone! For your money you will receive the following services:
Burning of books the FDA doesn’t approve of. June 28,1998
$828 million in industry user fees To fast track new and unsafe drugs to the consumers.
And I loved this one:
Infrastructure to Support Critical Agency Operations: The budget requests an increase of $14 million in budget authority for rising General Services Administration rent and other rent related costs. The rental properties that provide office and laboratory space for the FDA’s 11,000 employees are essential facilities that allow the FDA to perform its vital public health mission. The FDA’s White Oak consolidation provides an environment that encourages efficiency, creativity, and superior performance, while strategically using the agency’s human capital.
What vital function? Telling us that both Cheerios and Cherries are drugs? Is the FDA stoned or just so stupid and inept that we need to fire the lot and start over? Yup, that’s what I’d do. Good thing I’m not in charge huh? I’d also have a conversation with the fools in congress and tell them either they shape up or ship OUT!
And what of some vegetables that are cancer fighters? There is ample evidence that Cruciferous Vegetables, those such as watercress, broccoli and cabbage, have unique properties that can inhibit or deplete cancer in the human body. Read Here for more information: Will we have to get prescriptions from our doctor for these fruits and vegetables now in order to have some veggies for dinner? Are you kidding me? The FDA has failed time and time again where food safety is concerned and yet now they desire to control our food because it may have properties they don’t have control of? Where will the madness end?
The link above contains expert information from scientists on these veggies. And while you may not enjoy them I would seriously consider adding them to the weekly diet just for their health properties.
And then we have this Consumer Reports Survey concerning prescription drugs and the FDA. The survey taken by phone found the following information out from consumers:
More than 60 percent of Americans also agree that the Food and Drug Administration and Congress have failed to adequately protect consumers from harmful prescription drugs.
* 96 percent agree that the government should have the power to require warning labels if safety problems are identified–with 80 percent of those “strongly agreeing” to that authority. Currently, the FDA must negotiate safety warning labels with a drug maker.
* 93 percent agree that the FDA should have the power to order follow-up safety studies, with 65 percent “strongly agreeing” to that authority. Currently, the FDA generally does not have the authority to require that a safety study be performed once a drug is on the market.
* 84 percent agree that advertisements for a prescription drug with safety concerns should be prohibited, with 59 percent “strongly agreeing” to such limits.
* 92 percent of Americans agree that pharmaceutical companies should make public the results of all of their clinical trial studies, which reveal a drug’s effectiveness as well as possible hazardous side effects. Of those, 68 percent “strongly agreed” that drug studies should be made public.
Do you think that Congress will get the message? Those are pretty strong numbers. It isn’t like they represent only 30 or 40 or even 50 percent of those surveyed, but between 84% and 92%! Of course, this is to say that the FDA even does testing or requires scientific testing…

Psychotropic drugs. It’s the story of big money drugs that fuel a $330 billion psychiatric … Making A Killing: The Untold Story Of Psychotropic Drugging …
This video is a must see if you want to know the depth to which the drug companies and the FDA has gone to make money. It will also educate you to the realities of the Psychiatric Industry. This is not to say that some of these doctors aren’t good, but the truth behind their *pseudo science* they use to make themselves valuable in this society.
Until the FDA can put its own house into order, clean up the corruption and racketeering that this agency displays time and again, I’m going to refuse to give them any credence at all. I will look to other credible sources to give me the information I need to make good choices in my health life.
