Roland Martin Just Another Bigot

It is a shame that in this *enlightened* day and age, bigotry is still alive and well.  Bigots are everywhere and come in every shape, size, and color.

Roland Martin is a bigot.  Filling in for Campbell Brown’s No Bias, No Bull we see lots of bias and bull.  While Campbell Brown has her baby, doing the show  seems to be filling Roland’s head with delusions of grandeur!  Yup, being black is cool today with Obama in the White House.

I can’t stand to listen to the man.  His orations and opinions grate on my nerves to such an extent that I can no longer listen to Campbell Brown’s show.  I won’t do so again until she comes back either.  I feel that CNN is doing a huge disservice to its viewers to have this man on the show.  What made them think he was a good replacement for Campbell?

Bigotry is defined by the following on

–noun a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.

n.   One who is strongly partial to one’s own group, religion, race, or politics and is intolerant of those who differ.

1. A hypocrite; esp., a superstitious hypocrite. [Obs.]

2. A person who regards his own faith and views in matters of religion as unquestionably right, and any belief or opinion opposed to or differing from them as unreasonable or wicked. In an extended sense, a person who is intolerant of opinions which conflict with his own, as in politics or morals; one obstinately and blindly devoted to his own church, party, belief, or opinion.

prejudiced person who is intolerant of any opinions differing from his own

Just because you don’t like a thing doesn’t give you the right to impose your views on others.  While it is fine to discuss your views with others, and you have a right to your own opinion, there is no discussion taking place here.  That makes this wrong-headed, misguided, irrational and unfounded opinion-mongering.

For someone whose history includes segregation and bigotry he should know better.  But alas, history is seldom learned from as  this example of Martin’s diatribe on CNN shows:

(CNN) — We all have our vices. But one that drives me nuts is smoking.

There is nothing — NOTHING! — that I like about smoking.

Why someone in their right mind would want to essentially inhale fire is beyond me.

When relatives come to my home and they smoke, they can’t just stand outside the front or back door. No, I send them to the furthest point in the backyard to get their nicotine fix.

I celebrate when cities pass smoking bans because the only smoke I want in a restaurant should come from a hot, juicy steak. If I’m walking down the street, and the person in front of me is leaving their trail of smoke, I’ll happily speed up to get past them or publicly wave the smoke out of the way when walking by them to show my disapproval. And it angers me to drive down the street and look over to the next car and see a mom or dad puffing away as a helpless child has to sit there and inhale that junk.

So don’t think for a second that you’ll find any sympathy from me for the folks who are up in arms over the federal tobacco tax on a pack of cigarettes jumping from 39 cents to a buck and a penny. The money will be used for the expansion of the president’s health initiatives.

Look, I don’t care if a Democrat, Republican, or independent was behind this tax, I would gladly see it happen.

The folks who are not happy are saying this is far too much taxation and it’s wrong, but we can’t deny the health reality. Cigarettes are unhealthy. Period. This isn’t up for argument or debate.

According to an Associated Press story, “The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says cigarette smoking results in an estimated 443,000 premature deaths each year, and costs the economy $193 billion in health care expenses and lost time from work. Smoking is a major contributor to heart disease, cancer and lung disease.”

But then those who don’t want to see it happen are bringing out the usual prop: the poor, poor people.

Critics say the tax will disproportionately hurt poor people. Fine! Did we somehow forget that poor people already are likely to be in poorer health because they are living in areas where there are food deserts, and that means lack of access to fresh fruits and vegetables?

Poor folks are likely to lack insurance, which means when they get sick, they will go to a city or county hospital, and taxpayers have to foot the bill. So their decision to buy cigarettes will probably hit us in the pocketbook later on.

Folks, poor people are always used by someone. And in this case, they are being trotted out so we can say, “Oh, this is so harsh because the poor will be hurt.”

Let’s face it: I don’t want poor, middle or rich folks smoking. I just think it’s disgusting. But if this tax will cause a lot of folks — poor or otherwise — to quit smoking and add a few years to their life, then I call that good legislation.

The opinions expressed in this column are solely those of Roland Martin.

Yup, the world according to Roland Martin is back in the days of slavery.  Great job there Mr. Martin.

For those dedicated smokers, higher taxes will not make us quit. We have just found other ways of doing things. Mr. Martin’s bigoted opinions do not the facts make.  As I said above, for someone who has been subjected to discrimination he sure didn’t learn a thing.  Bigots are like that.  They want a world where the only people in it are carbon copies of themselves.  It is apparent that the new blacks are smokers!

Roland Martin is one of those delusional folks who seem to think that stopping smoking increases or prolongs life.  It is the equivalent of saying if you don’t smoke you won’t die.  How dumb is that?  Being born will cause you to die, that is guaranteed!  Whether or not you smoke has little to do with it.  Want to stop death?  Ban birth!

I have posted the facts when it comes to the new cigarette taxes Here: And just because you personally don’t like something doesn’t mean your opinion should count for more than any of the rest of society.  Once this was a free country and black people had to fight to be recognized.  Now Roland Martin thinks that smokers should be segregated from the rest of society.  Apparently he cannot learn from his own history.

Smokers have been pushed up against a wall.  We are now either going to fight back or lay down and die.  I personally will fight.  I’m that way.  So, Roland Martin, do be careful when you wave your hand in front of a smoker.  Someone might take exception to it.

Here is another opinion:

Fatally Flawed Facts About the New Cigarette Tax

Roland Martin claims that our government spends $198 billion dollars on care for smokers.  This dollar amount is artificially inflated.  Upon closer examination, one would see that taking care of a non-smoker is not free.  Non-smokers have heart attacks.  They injure themselves, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression and other conditions that have nothing at all to do with cigarettes that they have never smoked.

Furthermore, taxing the very people who are being left out in the cold (literally) when decisions are made regarding where a person can indulge a habit is the same Taxation Without Representation that caused The Boston Tea party.

I am a business owner.  I smoke.  I am prohibited from smoking in MY building.  I am required, by law, to smoke outside with little or no protection from the wind, rain and snow.

I pay $13000 per year in insurance premiums and my claims don’t even approach that amount.  I am not a burden to the healthcare system.  I served our country in uniform for 13 years.  I saw some awful things.  I use cigarettes to help cope.  I was used to do the bidding of people who sat home and watched the sanitized version on television.  Now I am being milked for more money to pay for problems that have nothing to do with me.  Don’t you dare tell me what a burden I am to society.

I acknowledge that my habit is not good for me.  There is no argument there.  My habit is not, however anywhere close to the destructive force it has been made out to be recently.  Get off my case.  Tax that jelly dough nut, that cup of coffee and those fries.  Tax the miles that obese people don’t walk.  Tax the television that people with a sedentary lifestyle watch.

Whether the *science* is on second hand smoke or those claiming allergies to smoke, it is all bogus.  And while some may claim that smoking isn’t good for you, I know vegans and vegetarians who exercise and do everything right that are constantly in the doctor’s office for one thing after another, (my roommate worked with 5 other women all totally health nuts who are CONSTANTLY at the doctors office).  I’ve smoked for almost 40 years and I rarely go to the doctor, (the last time being when I broke my leg in a spiral fracture).  Only when absolutely necessary, say once in 4 years or so, do I go.  Beat that record if you can you non-smokers…

And yes, I am calling the WHO and the American Cancer Society liars who use fuzzy math and junk science to promote non-smoking agendas.  I would never tell you that smoking is good for you, but if you choose to smoke there are even some doctors who will tell you not to quit because your body has become used to smoking and stopping will cause all those bad things to happen.

Athletes are 100 times more likely to use health care than a smoker.  Injuries from sports are high.  Fatal injuries occur more often than in any other area.  Should we ban sports now because of this?  You’d have a fight on your hands if you tried.  But the fact remains that these people cost Americans higher insurance premiums because of their injuries.  Go ahead, try to refute that!

Then there is the list of smokers who have lived to ripe old ages.  If smoking kills quick, how do you explain these folks?  Or the amount of baby-boomers out there???  Baby-boomers are supposed to bankrupt the Social Security system because there are so many of us.  How could we be here if we all died early from smoking???

FrankSinatra (1915 – 1998)  Smoked all his life.

JR Tolkien (1892 – 1973)

Winston Churchill

Albert Einstein, probably the world’s greatest ever scientist

Gerald Ford, former US president (93 when he died)

Elizabeth Taylor (currently 77 years young and going strong)

The list is endless

Also, the benefits of smoking are truly amazing…  You won’t like it, but too bad.

Fuzzy math or fuzzy logic, the truth is that all this stuff against smoking is just more propaganda and lies.  Especially the stuff on second hand smokeEven the courts have pointed this out and never been refuted.

Since second-hand smoke isn’t a true allergen, it does not create the same immune response (i.e. allergy attack) that a grain of pollen would. Or course there is no denying that smoke can aggravate and irritate underlying allergies, but it really cannot be considered the cause of them. Your mast cells (the cells that cry “wolf” whenever a particular allergen come in contact with them), only keep tabs on the protein signatures of potentially dangers body invaders, like germs and by accident, allergens. This means that there is no histamine (the chemical your body makes to battle allergens) to cause your runny nose, sneezing, and increased mucous production.
Now, there are some cases of true tobacco allergy, but these are very rare and are caused by direct contact with live tobacco plants or leaves. So, unless you live on a tobacco plantation, it is highly unlikely that you will ever develop real tobacco allergies.

One such definition of propaganda is this:

To some speakers and writers, propaganda is an instrument of the devil. They look on the propagandist as a person who is deliberately trying to hoodwink us, who uses half-truths, who lies, who suppresses, conceals, and distorts the facts. According to this idea of the word, the propagandist plays us for suckers.

And you just gotta love someone who thinks that when something is burned it can have anything left of it but ashes.  Fire is a great transformer.  It changes one thing into another usually wood into carbon.  But do a google search to find out what lives in smoke and you won’t find one single report or fact.  It’s all bogus.  What spores they talk about aren’t in the smoke itself, but in whatever it is BEFORE it is burned

Show me facts not fuzzy math or junk science.  I’m sick to death of fools and fabricators acting like they are the end-all of science.  I’ve shown over and over again that the science used if false and, at best, a total fabrication.  Today’s new black man is the smoker.  Segregated, taxed without representation, and pushed against the wall, we aren’t going to take it anymore!

We have been pushed just as far as we are going to allow ourselves to be pushed.  And while those who choose to buy cigarettes from the store will have little choice in how much they pay, others have found new and different ways to NOT pay these outrageous taxes.  Let those who need the insurance pay for it, not smokers.  SCHIP bill  is, and remains, unconstitutional and Anti-American.  Someone should remind Roland Martin about the days of slavery…

We are told so often and so assuredly that smoking is bad for us that I wonder if it isn’t just the opposite.  After all, the drug companies make no money off you UNLESS you quit.  And we all know how much the drug companies LOVE making money.  They will say and do anything, including making up new diseases, just to get you on their meds.

  1. Ihave heard so many blacks say that they have never voted before but they went out of their way to vote THIS TIME!Some one want to explain this ??Blantant prejudice is all it is!!

  2. I have also. But you cannot hold it against them to want one of their own in office. What bothers me most is that they never cared before to help our government govern. That is the sad part, not the prejudice. I would hope that ALL Americans would get involved right now or we will lose our country.

  3. Damn, We give them a black president, what else do they want! If was not for the blacks bringing up the race issue everytime we wouldnt have all this prejudise in our country!Get a grip people!!

  4. I’m not sure *we* gave them anything. These people are out of their minds with love for a man determined to ruin this country and hand it over to the money men. I couldn’t stand Roland Martin on Lou Dobbs either. Now that he’s taken over Campbell Brown’s show I refuse to watch it. I told CNN that too. And it does make you wonder who has an issue with race when they are the ones constantly bringing it up… Have a great day.

  5. Great article here!

The truly wonderful irony is that Roland Martin is obviously next in line for (more) discrimination, taxation, being denormalized and ostracized. OH the joy of seeing KARMA in action!

The FAT police, in their “war on obesity” are already on a good roll, following the lead of (and using the SAME junk science as) the tobacco control folks……who of course are just following Hitler’s own playbook (it was the Nazi’s who first coined the phrase “secondhand smoke” after all)!

Mr. Martin would do well to remember that what goes around ALWAYS comes around! In his case, it will bitch slap him before biting his ass.

  6. Ya know, I thought about mentioning that to him, but since I continually called him a bigot I figured I’d let someone else point out the porky points to him, er about him, LOL! Thanks for replying. Loved the comment!
