NRA Issues A Call To Arms

united States in Distress

“Laws that forbid the carrying of arms. . . disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes. . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.” — Jefferson’s “Commonplace Book,” 1774-1776, quoting from On Crimes and Punishment, by criminologist Cesare Beccaria, 1764

— Thomas Jefferson

The Obama Administration wants you to believe that it is for the sake the drug cartels that they intend to ban the sale of assault weapons.  However, there is no proof that this is, in fact, the case.  While Mexico claims that the weapons that the cartels use are coming from the united States, they cannot back this up with any certainty.  Especially not when you consider the net worth of these cartels.

Most of the drug cartel wars spill over into the population only rarely.  The cartels take care to keep the violence away from the local population as much as possible.  When the wars do happen, they are mainly over territory and not just because they feel like it.  But the cartels are not afraid to fight and they have the means to make sure they win.

According to Stratfor, the cartels bring in between $25 and $30 Billion Dollars per year! With finances like that they could purchase guns from any country in the world.  Just because the citizens of THIS country have the right to have and bear them, doesn’t mean we are selling them to the cartels.  I do understand that there are a few unscrupulous arms dealers that DO sell to the cartels, but to punish the LAW-ABIDING CITIZENS of this country because of a maybe is beyond stupid!

It is hard to imagine that supposedly intelligent men can come up with these demented ideas.

“[A]rms discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. . . Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them.” — 1775

– Thomas Paine

Our Four Fathers were adamant that we maintain our freedom to own and operate guns of all kinds, comprable to those the military uses.  They felt it was hugely important, so important that there are many, many quotes from them concerning our ability to be armed as a citizenry.

“What, sir, is the use of militia? It is to prevent the establishment of a standing army, the bane of liberty. . . Whenever Government means to invade the rights and liberties of the people, they always attempt to destroy the militia, in order to raise a standing army upon its ruins.” — Debate, U.S. House of Representatives, August 17, 1789

– Elbridge Gerry

To hold US accountable for the arms of the Cartels is foolish. No law abiding citizens is having anything to do with them. How outrageous and perverse to even consider such an idea. Mr. Holder are you mad?  Are you insane?  Shall we have your mental health evaluated and call some intervention for you?

“While the people have property, arms in their hands, and only a spark of noble spirit, the most corrupt Congress must be mad to form any project of tyranny.”

– Rev. Nicholas Collin, Fayetteville Gazette (N.C.), October 12, 1789

There is NO proof that banning assault weapons in THIS country will in ANY way, or with ANY stretch of the imagination, have any impact on the citizens of Mexico or the drug cartels.  It is equally provable that in those places where guns are allowed, and openly so,  crime rates and homicides due to guns are WAY down! How do you justify your remarks Mr. Holder?  Is your desire to control OUR rights to own and use guns so intense you will LIE to have your way?  FOOL!

You can have our guns when you pry them from our cold dead fingers!

“…who are the militia, if they be not the people of this country…? I ask, who are the militia? They consist of now of the whole people, except a few public officers.

– George Mason

We can assume by this comment Mr. Holder, Mr. Obama, that George Mason was speaking directly to you in the exception of a few public officers.  Mr. Obama is well guarded, although at this point I’m starting to wonder about his sanity also.  Mr. Obama, just how fast do you want your popularity to drop?  We are not a bunch of nut cases out here, but we are definitely serious about keeping our arms, whether those be military style or not.  Even the Supreme Court has stated that you may not touch them and in trying to do so you violate the Constitution and we will no longer support you in that case.

As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons,” Holder told reporters.

Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.

Show us the proof that what you say is true.  Put statistics where we can see and feel them.  The few cases the DEA has busted with regards to guns and Mexico were not nearly enough to supply even a few cartel members.  It is shear insanity to presume otherwise.  Taking guns from the citizens of this country on the false notion that it will help Mexico is more proof that you are unfit for your position.  Do NOT try to use false or misleading studies with us either.  We will not stand for it nor be fooled by it.

It seems to me that it is our involvement with the Mexican government that is causing all the problems in Mexico right now.  Mexicans themselves want their army OUT of their homes and lands, and to leave the cartels be.  This says to me that the people are being helped by the cartels far more than their government is helping them.  We are only interfering.

Hundreds of Mexicans blocked roads and bridges into the United States on Tuesday in a protest of army operations against drug gangs that officials said was organized by drug traffickers.

About 300 protesters, some with handkerchiefs tied over their faces, carried signs saying “Army Get Out!” in front of the town hall in the northern city of Monterrey, 130 miles (209 km) from the Texas border. It was the largest in a series of anti-army protests this week.

Now, I can easily put myself into the place of these Mexican citizens.  They are tired of a corrupt government walking all over them and now getting even more of them killed than they are killing the  men of the cartels.  If the need to quell these cartels is driven by the united States of America then is it any wonder the citizens of Mexico are protesting?  But let’s get real here, no American Citizen is going to be selling the amount of guns the cartels use.  It is simply insane to even consider this to be true.  We have laws that forbid that kind of thing.  Let’s let Mexico deal with their problems on their own.  They would probably do a better job that way!

According to the NRA-ILA:

Holder was still enjoying the high (pardon the pun) that he must have felt from his media moment when Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) reminded him that it isn’t the Attorney General who makes laws in the United States. Asked whether Holder had spoken to her before putting himself in front of the national news cameras, Pelosi said “no,” adding, “I think we need to enforce the laws we have right now.” Shortly thereafter, the office of Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) stated flatly that “Senator Reid would oppose an effort [to] reinstate the ban if the Senate were to vote on it in the future.”

Speaker Pelosi and Sen. Reid were joined in opposing Holder by members of the bipartisan House of Representatives Second Amendment Task Force. U.S. Rep. and Task Force co-chair Paul Broun (R-Ga.) said “The Attorney General’s recent comments about reinstating the ‘assault weapons’ ban are extremely troubling since a ban clearly violates our Constitutional right to bear arms.” Co-chair Dan Boren (D-Okla.) added, “The Second Amendment Task Force is adamantly opposed to reinstating the ban on the sale of assault weapons as it clearly would demonstrate a violation of United States citizens’ right to keep and bear arms.” Other members of the Task Force include Democrats Jason Altmire (D-Pa.), Travis Childers (D-Miss.), Brad Ellsworth (D-Ind.), Jim Matheson (D-Utah) and Mike McIntyre (D-N.C.), and Republicans Rob Bishop (R-Utah), John Carter (R-Tex.), John Boozman (R-Ark.), Steve King (R-Iowa) and Steve Scalise (R-La.).

The NRAps Wayne LaPierre issued a forceful call to arms yesterday.  CNN’s Lou Dobbs show covered it:

PILGRIM: All right, thanks very much, Bill Tucker. Thanks Bill.

And freedom under assault, the new battle over banning assault weapons. Stay with us.

PILGRIM: Defenders of the Second Amendment right to bear arms, are preparing for another fight over assault weapons. This week, Attorney General Eric Holder suggested renewing the assault weapon ban. And now in his first public appearance since the attorney general raised that possibility, Wayne LaPierre of the National Rifle Association has issued a forceful call to arms. Bill Tucker is here with that — Bill.

BILL TUCKER, CNN NEWS CORRESPONDENT: Well Kitty, you know, the NRA’s LaPierre was not appearing exactly before a hostile audience, in fact it would be hard to find a more friendly audience than conservative forum, CPAC. LaPierre was quick to attacker Attorney General Holder’s comments from Wednesday about needing to renew the ban on assault weapons for the good of Mexico.

WAYNE LAPIERRE, NATL RIFLE ASSN: The lie is that if we would just surrender more of our Second Amendment, Mexican drug cartels couldn’t get the guns they get to terrorize their people and ours. I mean, give me a break.

TUCKER: Now, LaPierre, underlined that the attorney general is not out of line within president’s administration. He noted that Vice President Joe Biden as the NRA’s lowest rating, an “F,” as does the president’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, staunch supporter of gun control. And as we’ve reported several times on this program, the president, President Obama, has supported a ban on handguns in the past and is on record favoring strong gun control measures. LaPierre warned gun owners will not back down on this issue.

LAPIERRE: Our founding fathers understood that the guys with the guns make the rules. They understood that if the only guys with the guns are the bad guys, we’re screwed. Our founding fathers knew that. And it’s no different today. That’s why we own guns. We’re not giving them up. The Constitution says it. We believe it. And that settles it.

TUCKER: As you can see, this is a passionate debate. And Kitty, this is not one that’s about to go away quietly into the night.

The one thing this country COULD do, and won’t, to change this situation would be to legalize the drugs, tax them, distribute them, and make their profits.  The Netherlands have had legalized drugs for years and their crime rate is very low.  They also make enough money off the drugs to fund rehab programs for those who want to kick their habits.

This would also force the cartels to do legitimate business, drop our enormous expenditures on the war on drugs, and probably see us gain financially instead of bleeding finances into the black whole of oblivion in the form of the BATFE and the DEA.  But, as a friend of mine has said, don’t fire them though as these are well trained individuals.  Just reassign them.  My friend mentions they could be reassigned to the FDA!  LOL!  Maybe then the FDA would actually be able to protect the food we eat instead of allowing it to poison and kill so many Americans.

Alcohol has been legal in this country since prohibition was lifted.  You do not see EVERY u.S. Citizen out there drinking, boozing and drunk.  No, and it would be the same with drugs.  It is the fact that they are prohibited that makes them so attractive.  Most Americans will never take them.  Make them available and the attraction will die.  But that is the smart thing to do and not something any intelligent person in government is going to do.  And so we continue with failed policies and black whole budgets.  And more Mexicans will die because of our governments interference.

Frankly, stupid people bore me.  Mr. Obama, Mr. Holder, you are on my bore list as of now!
