Telecom’s Immunity, Senate List Of Shame!

On February 12, 2008 our Senate voted to give the telecoms a free get out of jail card, once and for all absolving them of handing over your information to the feds. It wasn’t that you did anything wrong, they just handed them everything illegally because dubya told them to. just more proof that this pretender to the Oval Office is a criminal. Should Congress give the telecoms their immunity, it would mean that bush’s illegal wiretapping would also be off the hook, so he has a real stake in seeing these guys get off.

If you have a Verizon phone, Quest, AT&T, and some other phone companies, chances are excellent your phone records, calls you made, emails, etc. were given to the FBI and CIA for investigation without a warrant. Your phone was tapped, conversations listened in on, and your life spied upon for no other reason than someone decided you were guilty before being proven innocent.

The House of Representatives, voted it down. So the whole process has to start over again. If we don’t do something, the chances are that this will get passed. The time to call and do something is now.

For some reason, our Senators seem to feel they can vote the way THEY want to, instead of how their Constituents, US, want them to. It is time they either became aware of the fact that they are wrong, or they are voted OUT of office! Congress has run amok long enough.

I could not have done this research without the aid of VoteSmart and CongressExposed with only one or two exceptions all my information came from these two sites. A major thank you goes out to the creators of these excellent websites!!!

I might also add that it has taken me 9 hours to put this one article together. Probably not much to you, but this was continuous work on my part with few breaks.

Those who tried to hold the telecoms accountable were:

Sen. Biden, Joseph Jr. (D-DE)
Sen. Boxer, Barbara (D-CA) Sen. Feingold, Russell (D-WI)
Sen. Harkin, Thomas (D-IA)
Sen. Kennedy, Edward Sr. (D-MA)
Sen. Kerry, John (D-MA)
Sen. Leahy, Patrick (D-VT)
Sen. Obama, Barack Jr. (D-IL)
Sen. Sanders, Bernard (I-VT)
Sen. Wyden, Ron (D-OR)

Senator Clinton didn’t vote on this issue. Senator McCain voted against it, (voted for immunity for the telecoms). Senator Obama voted against immunity for them. Shame on Senators Clinton and McCain!

If you find your Senator listed here, why not give them a call and ask them what the hell they were thinking that they could betray their constituents and let the telecoms go free.

Just so we are clear, the language of the bill states that:

S Amdt 3907 to S Amdt 3911 to S 2248: To strike the provisions providing immunity from civil liability to electronic communication service providers for certain assistance provided to the Government.

Link to Legislation: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:samdt3907:
Senate Amendment Vote: 02/12/2008 : Amendment Rejected 31 – 67 (Record Vote Number 15)

Now, to our list of Shame: Call your Senator and ask them WHY they voted to give the telecoms immunity from prosecution.
