Now, my profile on Yahoo is marked ADULT so that I won’t be bothered by kiddies. There aren’t any X-rated pictures there, no obscene language, etc. Just my points of view. But Yahoo doesn’t check any of that, they just assume that since it is marked Adult, it must be BAD! Since WHEN in this country did the few have to conform with the many? I don’t have small children and don’t want to be bothered with them. I don’t mind that YOU have children, but I’m old now and done with all that. So excuse me if I prefer ADULT company to that of CHILDREN!

And what the hell is wrong with PARENTS using Parental CONTROLS?  Why should the rest of us have to be penalized for YOUR children?  This is beyond the realm of reasonable!

I think Yahoo has gone bonkers here. Making Yahoo profiles open to kiddies seems like they are saying it isn’t all right to be an adult any more. Why is that? I like being an adult. I had to wait 18 years to be an adult and wouldn’t change back even if I could. So WHY is Yahoo making us all conform to kiddie status?

I think this is ridiculous but trying to talk to Yahoo is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack! They don’t give a shit, PERIOD! I guess I’m glad for them, but COME ON! What happened to the privileges of being ADULT? Does opening my profile up to kiddies mean I get to be spammed by even more ass-wipes?

After all, don’t we have to put up enough with all their cookies and web beacons and adware that attaches to our computers? Hell, every time I open yahoo mail and finish I have to scan my computer for adware and malware!

Seems to me that yahoo is going to make itself unpopular with this decision. My picture on Yahoo is just my face nothing else. You would think they might at least LQQK before sending out this kind of crap, but that’s yahoo for you. Perhaps it is time to use a different service from now on if Yahoo is going to be so damed unfriendly!

  1. Yup, that is true. I tracked them down, but by then had already written and posted this. Oh well…

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. Please stop by again.

  2. these emails are phishing scams,i think, since they are coming from a domain other than yahoo. the embedded links do not point to a yahoo owned domain.

  3. I agree. It’s the parent’s responsibility to filter what their kids see and hear on the internet, not the rest of us.

  4. Thanks Lisa! Great to have contributors here!

  5. If you’ve acted like a responsible adult, because you didn’t want to be bothered by kiddies ..and tagged your Yahoo ID as “ADULT” ..don’t be suprised if you receive a notification like this one ::

While the e-mail headers have undenyably been spoofed so as to be believable, the content is pure fabrication; one part windup, one part subtle phishing ..in my opinion, highly suspect.

Just my two cents worth on the subject.

  6. What ever happened to WANTING the responsibility when having a kid, of making the IMPORTANT decisions FOR the kid? And I totally agree with you about why should I be forced to deal with children when I don’t have any more at home? Mine are grown too. It isn’t MY PROBLEM to watch what your child is doing on the internet. BE A PARENT and watch your child! I had no problems doing that with mine! It really isn’t that hard. Trust me.

  7. I got the same email. Like you, mine is “adult” because I don’t want to be bothered by kids, and yes, I do happen to have some adult only interests. As an adult in a free country I am allowed. I’m also supposed to be allowed the right of assembly with those of my choosing. I choose NOT to assemble with kids.

I checked Yahoo’s TOS and they clearly state that some content is ‘ADULT’ content. I saw nothing in the “updated” TOS terms stating that Yahoo was NOT allowing profiles to be marked “adult”.

If parents are really THAT concerned, then I suggest they start parenting keep their brats away from computers and learn to use the parental controls that are available with every computer.

If the kids need a computer, have only one and keep it in a main room of the house to be monitored by said parent when their spawn is using it.

I raised my child already, all by myself and I sure as hell refuse to be told I have to still sacrifice myself for someone else’s kid.

I’m so sick of this “for the children” crap that I am starting to hate children. And I have NO regrets for saying that. What the hell ever happened to parents monitoring their child’s activities?

  8. I set my profile as adult for the same reason you did. It allows me to be the adult I am without the worry of kiddies. Unfortunately, I think this setting is what has attracted so many spam bots on Yahoo IM. My guess is that Yahoo either 1) doesn’t know how to handle adult verification (especially since all you got was a warning screen about adult content and a button to click through), or 2) doesn’t want to spend the time, effort, resources, etc. in order to create a decent parental control system for the Yahoo sites.
