Big Pharma, You Just Can’t Believe A Word They Say

The evidence mounts daily, from every news venue, about almost every drug Big Pharma has put out. A few of the names for the latest list are: the Antibiotic Ketek which causes liver failure and eventual death; The blood thinner, Heparin, which has caused death; then there Vytorin (cholesterol) and Avandia (diabetes). There was also the

Minutes Report on Trasylol

A researcher estimates that 22,000 patients could have been saved if the FDA removed the heart surgery drug Trasylol two years ago, when his study revealed widespread death associated with it. Scott Pelley reports. More…

Finally someone has decided that enough is enough! House Representative Bart Stupak (D-MI) has asked for FDA Commissioner Andrew von Eschenbach to step down. Personally I don’t know which is worse, the gross negligence of the FDA or the constant siding with the drug companies. Either way, it is the American Citizen who loses!

There are more drugs to be aware of too. Drugs like Lipitor for lowering cholesterol, and Flu Shot hoaxes!

Considering that tens of millions of Americans now take statins to lower cholesterol, the following headline was conspicuously absent from the major media this month: “Statins Found to Turn On Gene that Causes Muscle Damage.” It’s now a fact of science; a new study shows that taking statins destroys your muscle to a greater or lesser degree. And let’s not forget that the heart is a muscle.

Place this study juxtaposed to another rather interesting recent finding: the more fit you are the longer you will live – and the two just don’t add up. How can you destroy muscle and be more fit? You can’t. Sure you can drug your cholesterol number lower, but will you be healthier, fit, and live longer?

In the new study researchers found that statins activate a gene signal in muscles called atrogen-1. When this gene activates it targets key muscle proteins for destruction. The activation of this gene drives the process of muscle atrophy and muscle wasting. It is induced in cardiac muscle in failing hearts. Why on earth would any person want this gene activated by a drug? <snip>

In 2004 the government-funded National Cholesterol Education Program selected a panel of nine “experts” to review statin drug use and make recommendations as to guidelines doctors should follow to reduce cardiovascular disease. They recommended that individuals at high cardiovascular disease risk attain LDL levels < 100 mg/dL and individuals at very high cardiovascular risk attain LDL levels < 70 mg/dL (levels that are abnormal, levels which are seldom ever this low in healthy people with no cardiovascular disease). Their advice was published in the marketing journal of the American Heart Association, Circulation. This “scientific journal” failed to disclose that six of the nine authors had direct financial ties to the makers of statin drugs.

Here is another one for you:

HPV Vaccine Hoax Revealed: FDA Documents Reveal HPV “Not Associated with Cervical Cancer”
A NewsTarget investigation has revealed that the FDA knew as early as 2003 that Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) was not linked to cervical cancer. Despite this knowledge, the FDA, along with key pharmaceutical companies, has continued to push for the use

Have I gotten my point across yet? Are you getting the message that Big Pharma will INVENT sickness in order to sell you a drug? I can’t tell you how mad I get whenever I see an arthritis commercial! Those people on those commercials have no idea of arthritis pain, yet there they are, dancing away with Aleve. When my arthritis flares I feel like I am made of broken glass and no over-the-counter stuff helps do more than take the edge off.

Worst of all, Big Pharma only makes drugs that treat SYMPTOMS, NOT THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. What good is treating the symptoms? Has ANYONE ever been cured by Big Pharma? Do Doctors even practice medicine anymore?

Boston Medical Center Tries to Unplug Doctors from Free Handouts

UMass Memorial Medical Center is taking a stab at one form of cancer that permeates the medical profession – free “bribes” from drug companies and medical device makers.

A new cutting edge policy “prohibits doctors and other clinical staff from eating meals paid for by companies; bans all gifts, from candy to medical journals; stops drug companies from giving money directly to individual physicians and departments for educational programs; and places a complete ban on doctors joining company “speakers bureaus” to give talks about products.

Let’s hope this type of program catches on around the country and becomes the norm – it would cut down on many thousands of unnecessary deaths and drug-related serious injuries due to fraudulent drug company promotion of off label drug use.

The obstacles for broad public implementation of such policies are huge, as Dr. Daniel Lasser, head of family medicine and community health at UMass Memorial said, “It will be a dramatic change for some physicians.”

Hospitals risk doctors jumping ship or may not be able to attract new doctors when their gravy train of free handouts, including expensive dinners and vacations is cut off.

All I can say is it is time for a drastic change if the medical profession expects to have any credibility left. I’m sure there are good doctors out there, but my question is, Do you know how to practice Medicine or Drugs?

And, if all this wasn’t bad enough, how about this little gem?

FDA Condones Unsafe Human Experiments
Wednesday, October 03, 2007

The New York Times reports that the FDA fails to ensure the safety of millions of people who participate in experimental clinical trials. In fact, the government doesn’t even have any idea how many of these experiments are taking place. The FDA haphazardly follows up on less than 1%, and when problems are found little or nothing is done.

The New York Times outlines several horror stories of individuals stuck in an unscrupulous system, as well as the near total lack of FDA oversight. This is one more example of FDA ineptitude – which is comprised of a very long list of transgressions against the citizens of this country. Let’s call a spade a spade, the FDA is little more than a police force bully serving as the gatekeeper to profits for elite companies at the expense of human health. Taking any drug is like playing Russian roulette.

  1. Thank you. I agree with your comments. There seems to be no accountability in this area. Deaths seem to be considered just par for the course. It is unacceptable.

Hope you will stop back by and post again.

  2. Great Post
