I can’t tell you how refreshing it is to see an elected official acting with both sense and integrity for a change! Imagine, someone in office actually REFUSING to use taxpayer dollars to help illegal aliens! I love it! Give this man a meddle! In fact, give him a national speaking platform so the rest of the idiots in Congress can get a clue!
Last night Lou Dobbs did a story about Nebraska’s Attorney General who is refusing to handle cases for illegal aliens! Without further adieu, here is the story:
DOBBS: Well, another local official taking action to deal with the illegal immigration crisis and state officials doing so, as well. State officials driven to action by the federal government’s inability to enforce our border. Nebraska’sAttorney General Jon Bruning said he won’t file lawsuits to seek monetary damages on behalf of illegal aliens. That’s the accusation by his critics. Mr. Attorney general, good to have you with us. Welcome.
JON BRUNING (R), NEBRASKA ATTY. GENERAL: Thanks, Lou, good to be here.
DOBBS: You’re being accused of not representing illegal aliens who have been victimized by discrimination, a serious charge. Why are you not acting?
BRUNING: In Nebraska, like every other state, our taxpayers have had enough and they don’t want to see their state attorney representing illegal immigrants. Not enough money to go around the way it is. I made a decision my office isn’t going to be the free lawyer for illegal immigrants.
DOBBS: What has been the reaction of the federal government?
BRUNING: The federal government has stopped paying the NEOC, the Equal Opportunity Commission, for some of the cases.
But listen, if discrimination does occur against Nebraska’s citizens, I’m still going to act. The federal government can act. There’s lots of ways to get redress. We’re not going to stand for discrimination. I’m just not going to be the free lawyer for an illegal who wants to get money from a citizen of this country.
DOBBS: And is it your judgment based on empirical evidence that that’s what’s going on here?
BRUNING: Well, that’s what the equal opportunity commission’s asking me to do. The case they sent over, I mean there, was very sketchy evidence of discrimination to start with. This guy simply was asked for his driver’s license, and he didn’t like that. As you talked about earlier in the show, you have to have a driver’s license to vote in some states. Well, he didn’t want to provide it. So they decided it was discrimination, they sent it over to me, and I said we’re not going to file it, there isn’t discrimination, but even if there was you’re not even a citizen of this state. And non-emergency benefits I don’t think are a proper thing to extend to people who aren’t citizens of the country.
DOBBS: To deal — you know, that’s an interesting position. Because they’re complaining that you won’t enforce the law. Yet you — you put yourself in the position of, say, george w. bush, who’s not been enforcing our laws for some time. What is the recourse? I mean, I guess you’re — I don’t know if you’re flattered or insulted by the comparison, but this administration has refused to secure our border. It has refused to enforce our immigration laws. You’re refusing to take action and being criticized for it by some for not enforcing the law.
BRUNING: Well, and there’s other federal laws that say you can be prosecuted if you harbor an illegal. So if a landlord knowingly rents, you can be prosecuted for harboring. And there’s federal laws that say we can’t extend non-emergency benefits.
So the debate is are legal services from my office a non- emergency benefit? I would argue that they are, and that they can’t be provided under federal law.
DOBBS: So what has been the reaction of, say, the governor, the state legislature, the citizens of Nebraska?
BRUNING: Well, the citizens of Nebraska have a lot of common sense, and certainly they have been very, very supportive. There have been those who have argued that I ought to prosecute these cases, but the governor’s been very supportive. We offered a bill to the legislature this year to force state agencies to run a check on background before non-emergency benefits were provided. Legislature managed to kill that thing, but I think we’ll see it again next year. I mean, it’s important, I think, that we are judicious with our precious tax dollars, and that we don’t spend them willy-nilly on anybody that’s not a citizen.
DOBBS: And the attorney general of Nebraska, by the way, demonstrating that the burden didn’t rest with the state, but rather with the person who had violated U.S. law, namely the illegal immigrant. So it all gets very interesting indeed and very difficult for all of us, including those who are here illegally, of course. We thank you very much, Mr. Bruning. Thank you very much. The attorney general, state of Nebraska. Thank you.
BRUNING: You’re welcome.
One thought here before I go off and say how much I love Nebraska, is the fact that they mention this guy being asked for his driver’s license. But I wondered WHY he was asked for it, so I went looking for the story to read more about this and see what was up. What I found out made me even happier.
I love Nebraska for the common sense they have shown in this area!
Seems this illegal alien tried to rent an apartment and was asked for his ID. THAT’S why he, (the illegal alien), was mad. And so was the local bleeding hearts advocacy group… Too bad. We have laws that are finally being enforced here. If these people don’t want to have problems, let them come to this country LEGALLY. That is all we’re asking them to do. There is a right way and a wrong way to do things. And being here illegally is obviously the wrong way.
Considering what coyotes make on these people, they can afford to come to this country LEGALLY. But instead, they choose the ILLEGAL way and then want all our services that are reserved for LEGAL CITIZENS. Well, you can’t have it both ways.
And please, before you call me a racist, bigot, xenophobe, or committing hate-crimes, please read my article on the same found HERE:
Nebraska Attorney General refuses to sue for immigrants’ fair housing rights
LINCOLN, Neb.– Hobbs was angry. The head of the Nebraska Equal Opportunity Commission had just learned of a Hispanic couple who said their landlord asked for their driver’s licenses - but didn’t ask the same of non-Hispanic tenants.
Hobbs said it sounded like the couple were “treated differently than everybody else because of national origin,” and sent the case to the state’s top prosecutor, hoping he would sue on their behalf under fair housing laws.
When Attorney General Jon Bruning received the case, he was angry, too - for a different reason than Hobbs.
“I’m not going to use taxpayer dollars to file lawsuits for illegal aliens,” said Bruning after learning the couple was in the U.S. illegally. “You’re not going to get a free lawyer” from his office, he said, “if you’re not a citizen of this country.”
Critics say Bruning’s legal rationale is so off-base that he may end up in court after all - and not as a prosecutor. Immigration activists suggest they may be laying the groundwork for a first-of-its kind lawsuit, with Bruning as the defendant.
Oh, I can’t WAIT for this case. Imagine them arguing that the laws on the books don’t apply? LOL I mean think about it. Here they are arguing for the fair housing rights. OK, but that only applies to LEGAL CITIZENS of the United States. All they will accomplish here is the fact that it will be made perfectly clear to ALL that illegals don’t have the right to housing!!!
Bruning argues that the federal 1996 welfare reform law prohibits him from providing legal services to illegal immigrants, pointing to a section that says only legal residents should get state or local public benefits. The law defines them to include welfare, disability and health services.
It doesn’t mention legal services, but Bruning believes they are included in wording that denies “any other similar benefit for which payments or assistance are provided to an individual, household or family eligibility unit.”
Immigration advocates say the interpretation is unprecedented and mean-spirited, and that discrimination should be prosecuted regardless of the victim’s immigration status.
I have noticed that those who are bleeding hearts for illegals tend to call names a LOT! They know that legally they don’t have a leg to stand on, so messages of hate and name calling are a frequent resource for them. And they always choose to make this an emotional issue… “Oh, poor pity…” Well, sorry but I don’t pity anyone who breaks the law be they citizen or not. There is a legal way into this country, USE IT OR BE SCREWED! Tide is turning folks…
“No public official has ever taken the position that anti-discrimination protections are equal to welfare benefits,” said Jonathan Blazer, an attorney with the National Immigration Law Center.
The couple ultimately asked Bruning not to prosecute because they feared it would draw the attention of immigration authorities. Their names have not been publicly released.
But any legal showdown over the case could help define just how far attorneys general can push against illegal immigrants while staying on the right side of the law.
Raul Gonzalez, legislative director of the National Council of La Raza, a national Hispanic rights group, said Bruning’s interpretation would allow people to “run wild over immigrants.”
Another favorite tactic of these illegal lovers, FORGET TO PLACE THE ILLEGAL IN FRONT OF IMMIGRANT. These are ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS, NOT LEGAL IMMIGRANTS. The United States of American and all her CITIZENS WELCOME LEGAL IMMIGRANTS! We only want the law breakers GONE!
Under Bruning’s logic, he said, prosecutors would not seek justice against someone who ran a red light and injured an illegal immigrant.
“They’re basically saying it’s open season on undocumented immigrants,” Gonzalez said.
Bruning’s office said that’s not the case.
“It’s ridiculous to compare prosecuting criminal cases using taxpayer dollars to filing a lawsuit seeking damages from a private citizen for the benefit of illegal aliens,” said Bruning’s chief deputy, David Cookson.
Bruning agrees with the groups that the law protects illegal immigrants from discrimination. But he said he isn’t legally obligated to prosecute on their behalf, and that they should seek legal counsel elsewhere.
Ahhhhhh, maybe we should call the WAAAAAAAAAHMBULANCE for these people??? What do they expect? That we are just going to continue to allow this shit to be thrown into our faces? Go ahead and sue. Go ahead and try your shit. There are too many laws backing Mr. Bruning up and he wouldn’t have decided to go this route if he wasn’t sure of himself. I can’t wait to see the outcome of this one.
Now, if these were LEGAL Hispanic American Citizens that were being discriminated against I’d be all up in this Attorney General’s face demanding to know why he wasn’t standing up for them. But we aren’t talking about US Citizens here, we are talking ILLEGALS. I notice he didn’t tell ICE about them or turn their names into ICE. Oh, well, can’t have everything, I guess.
And for the love of mercy people, do not compare illegal immigrants to speeding tickets! That makes no sense at all. But then neither does their cause. An illegal immigrant is a National of some other country, they owe us NO ALLEGIANCE! Get real here. Take your emotional blackmail somewhere else. I don’t don’t buy into any of it…

Great piece! I fail to see how asking for a drivers’ license is discrimination. I’m white, fully employed, natural American citizen (meaning I was born here to parents who were citizens/legal residents) and these days you have to provide your Social Security number AND drivers’ license to rent anywhere. Prospective landlords use them for credit and criminal checks. This is standard operating procedure and NOT discrimination.
And how the hell would that couple know the landlord didn’t ask the same thing of non-hispanic prospective tenants? I somehow doubt that. Trying to rent a house or apartment these days is worse than trying to get a bank loan with the information they want.
La Raza is just grasping at straws. If any of the people connected with La Raza are legal residents/citizens, they should be equally concerned with the laws of this country.
I’m so fed up of the discrimination/race card bullshit that is just so over-played these days that the words are almost meaningless. What used to be good ideals and laws to protect people from real abuse, harassment, discrimination, etc has been so watered down that it’s ridiculous.
Exactly! These illegal alien bleeding hearts make me want to puke! Fricking get a life! If you can’t stand the heat, get the hell out of the kitchen! Only legal citizens belong in America. Don’t like it? Tough!
