I Love Lou Dobbs!
Oh, not in the freaky, stalker type way, but in the way he presents things, in the everyday stories he brings to life and lively discussion. Yup, I love Lou Dobbs. In the face of media bias and one news fits all, Lou Dobbs stands head and shoulders above the rest. In fact, I think he is the ONLY one who has consistently stood up for the working class since I can remember. Oh, don’t get me wrong, others like Jack Cafferty do too, they know what is wrong with this world, but Lou Dobbs does it every night, 5 days a week. I really miss that show when the weekend rolls around…
Having said all that, yesterday was an amazing news cast. Believe it or not, May 1, is Law Day. That’s the day we celebrate our Laws and the value they bring to our lives. How ironic then that the Hispanic community would choose that day to demonstrate for illegal immigration rights!
According to The American Bar Association Law day means:
Fifty years ago President Eisenhower proclaimed the first Law Day a “day of national dedication to the principle of government under law.” The ABA invites you to celebrate this enduring principle during the 50th anniversary of Law Day.
Law Day 2008 will explore the meaning of the rule of law, fostering public understanding of the rule of law through discussion of its role in a free society.
I’m 50 years old and only just looked up the meaning for Law Day. So, on the year I was born this was put into effect. Kinda kewl! And all this time I thought the First of May meant something else. ~grin~
What does all this have to do with Lou Dobbs? Good question… I’m so glad you asked! You see, all day yesterday were demonstrations around the country and those speaking were pandering to the Hispanic community and Illegal Immigrants! I’m so not impressed. Wonder how much money the Hispanics funnel into Congress??? Well, you know me, I had to find out…
According to Joel Russell from Hispanic Business Magazine:
Hispanic political action committees (PACs) contributed over $1.8 million to candidates in the 2003-04 election cycle (see table, “Hispanic PAC Spending”), nearly triple the total from the 2000 presidential election, according to data from the Federal Election Commission (FEC). Still, Hispanic PAC activity represents only a trickle of money in comparison to the Hispanic voting population.
Well, that’s a pretty penny! Wonder how many pockets THAT went into hmmmm? But that is old news and I wanted TODAY’S News… And of that voting community, how many are illegals with stolen or forged identities? And yes I will say it. You know it is happening, even if they haven’t been caught YET. Maybe they never will be, or maybe they already have and someone is looking the other way… Wouldn’t be the first time. Especially in Sanctuary Cities…
I went looking, but this article wasn’t really about campaign contributions so I just left it and came back to what this was actually about which was what was happening around the country yesterday. I’ve said it before, I want to know:
WHY ILLEGALS ARE IN THIS COUNTRY DEMANDING RIGHTS WHEN THEY SHOULD GO HOME TO THEIR COUNTRY AND DEMAND THEIR RIGHTS THERE!
If someone can explain that one to me I’d be ever so happy. Because if they want rights, they should go HOME and claim their rights there, not come into MY COUNTRY and demand we change OUR LAWS TO SUIT THEM! (climbing off my soap box now)
So, back to Lou Dobbs who had an amazing show yesterday.
LOU DOBBS, HOST: Thank you, Wolf.
Tonight pro amnesty and left wing groups ignoring national law day — it is National Law Day in this country. They ignore the fundamental values of the nation and demand an end to the enforcement of U.S. immigration laws. We’ll have complete coverage of this travesty. Also communities across the nation suffering devastating consequences from our illegal immigration crisis, but the mayor of New Haven, Connecticut is pandering to socioethnic special interest groups. He’s making his city a safe haven for illegal aliens. Did I mention this is National Law Day? We’ll have that report.
Oh, I couldn’t wait for him to get past the candidate stuff. Is there anyone else besides me who sick to death of listening to all this campaigning crap? It is like the bush administration, can’t wait for that to be over too! But he surprised me last night and there wasn’t any campaign stuff on first thing. I almost missed the good stuff!
ANNOUNCER: This is LOU DOBBS TONIGHT: news, debate, and opinion for Thursday, May 1. Live from New York, Lou Dobbs.
DOBBS: Good evening, everybody and happy Law Day.
This is National Law Day, Law Day USA, 2008, proclaimed National Law Day first by President Dwight David Eisenhower. Thousands on this pro-law day, thousands of pro-illegal alien activists and their supporters instead joined up with left wing groups and held protests and demonstrations across the nation.
But those protests were much smaller than in previous years, considerably smaller. And the demonstrators were demanding that the federal government immediately stop arresting illegal aliens and they demanded that amnesty be given to 12 to 20 million illegal aliens in this country.
Now ironically these protests coming on the same that day that this nation by law celebrates National Law Day, honoring our rule of law. We have coast-to-coast coverage tonight of the marches, the protests and the impact, if any, on the presidential campaign.
We begin with Jim Acosta in New York City — Jim.
JIM ACOSTA, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Lou, hundreds of protesters rallied here in New York, thousands marched in the streets and other big cities across the country to demonstrate against immigration raids and deportations. But the turnout was nowhere near the hundreds of thousands of people these rallies drew two years ago. And so far in places like Chicago no reports of major unrest, such as what unfolded at a demonstration in Los Angeles last year.
Organizers launched these marches two years ago they say as a way to put pressure on the government to respect the rights they say of the undocumented, but some in this movement worry that that message is being lost out here in these events that are unfolding today. We talked to one immigration advocate who says he didn’t take part in today’s demonstrations because other groups, anti war groups and anti globalization groups have glommed (ph) onto these rallies, muddying the message.
ACOSTA: And this was a conscious decision not to come?
EDWARD JUAREZ: Absolutely. This was a conscious decision not to come, not to participate precisely because of the fact of the organizations that are involved in these kinds of events they really do not project who are the (ILLEGAL JustMyTruth) immigrants of today.
ACOSTA: And immigration groups that we talked to today say this year is different. Demonstrations, mass demonstrations may have worked in 2006, but some Latino and immigration rights groups are hoping for this year instead Lou, is a march to the ballot box this fall.
DOBBS: Well they can’t very well march to the ballot box if they’re not citizens, can they?
ACOSTA: Well you know the folks who are citizens, who do express some sympathy towards the undocumented they’re in fact planning on going to the ballot box this fall and actually we’ve seen those numbers increase…
What? Like they haven’t been voting in the past? Or are they planning on having illegals vote??? See, I don’t trust anyone. I’m glad certain cities are demanding Identification from voters…
DOBBS: Surely I mean I may, Jim, they would be going to vote anyway, would they not as citizens?
ACOSTA: They are. Yes.
DOBBS: Good.
ACOSTA: Many other groups that represent Hispanics in this country; obviously they have a different point of view than you do, but…
DOBBS: Whoa, whoa, whoa…
ACOSTA: … what they’re hoping for is that Hispanics…
DOBBS: Whoa, whoa, whoa…
ACOSTA: … across the country will show up at the polls in big numbers.
DOBBS: Look, Jim, Jim, you said who…
ACOSTA: Yes.
DOBBS: … represents Hispanics in this country? You said they represent…
ACOSTA: Yes, they do. They represent some of the Hispanics…
DOBBS: Some of the Hispanics…
DOBBS: Some of the Hispanics, all right. Now we’re talking. Because Hispanic Americans like every other American (INAUDIBLE) organization by any stretch of the imagination.
Jim Acosta, thank you very much.
I just wanted to slap that Acosta guy. He was talking a mile a minute and there wasn’t a decent discussion going on because of it. Not very intelligent of a person from CNN. I thought that he would have had more respect for Lou Dobbs, but by talking over everything, nothing came out on the transcript. Sad…
DOBBS:Those pro amnesty rallies taking place in Los Angeles tonight as well. Organizers and police say they hope there won’t be a repeat of the violence at last year’s protest.
As Casey Wian now reports, three separate marches converging on downtown Los Angeles at this very hour.
CASEY WIAN, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Yes, we can, marchers chant, but the May Day immigration protesters have failed to accomplish their main goals. Comprehensive changes in immigration law, an end to deportations, and a moratorium on workplace raids by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. (YEA JustMyTruth!)
UNIDENTIFIED FEMALE: We consider that the raids are a violation of basic human rights.
Oh, now they are BASIC HUMAN RIGHTS? I DON’T THINK SO LADY! You don’t get to come to my country and demand anything if you are an illegal! You don’t even get a say so! This is AMERICA and only AMERICANS get a say!
WIAN: Three separate marches converged on L.A. City Hall. Two were organized mostly by Latino and other ethnic advocacy groups. The third was put together by American Apparel, an L.A. based clothing manufacturer that has lobbied for illegal alien amnesty and an end to ICE raids. It gave 4,000 employees the day off to march. Los Angeles has more illegal aliens than any other U.S. city and on the eve of the rallies the demonstrators were welcomed by local officials.
CHIEF WILLIAM BRATTON, LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPT.: We, the police, will be here to ensure that the community and its supporters can exercise their First Amendment rights in a peaceful way. So we encourage you tomorrow to come to these rallies, to come and enjoy.
MAYOR ANTONIO VILLARAIGOSA, LOS ANGELES: We’re committed in this city to embracing every Angelino, whether they’re born here or not, whether they’re legal or not.
Someone needs to fire this asshole! This is AMERICA! How DARE he say this kind of shit here? I understand that there are so many illegals there that they have over-run the LEGAL population. ICE needs to move in PRONTO! Clean out those communities and make it stick. Then we’ll see just how pro-illegal that mayor is!
WIAN: Last year’s rally at MacArthur Park ended in a violent confrontation with Los Angeles police. Scores of officers, protesters and journalists were injured. And the LAPD has spent the past year refining its crowd control tactics. But there were smaller crowed to control this year in Los Angeles and other cities. Many reported turnout only about one-tenth the size of last year’s pro amnesty marches.
WIAN: Now the latest information we have from the Los Angeles Police Department is about 8,500 marchers are participating in these three marches this year. That compares to up to 25,000 they estimated attended last year’s marches. They say there haven’t been no major incidents so far. Only two arrests, one for fighting and one for misdemeanor marijuana possession.
And Lou, I got to tell you that all around the perimeter of this rally are groups of Los Angeles Police Department officers, groups of sheriff’s deputies standing around with nothing to do. It’s a welcome change from last year, Lou.
DOBBS: Well absolutely. Now I got a little confused there. Was that Bill Bratton saying come down and have a great demonstration basically enjoy the food, enjoy the day?
WIAN: Absolutely. Both he and the mayor encouraged everybody in Los Angeles to come out and support the agenda of these folks. The mayor said that. Chief Bratton didn’t. He encouraged people to come out and no matter their legal status, you know exercise their First Amendment rights, as he said.
Ummm, excuse me, but ILLEGALS don’t have first amendment rights FOOLS! That mayor really needs to get replaced! How dare he give or even think of giving rights to ILLEGALS! That is NOT Constitutionally POSSIBLE!
DOBBS: Well I mean that’s kind of fun there in Los Angeles. I mean you guys have got a really neat city. I mean the chief of police just — I mean he’s come a long way since he was chief of police here. I’ve known Chief Bratton a while and that’s sort of — frankly it looks — every opinion expressed on this broadcast is my own, as you know, Casey.
And I’m about to express one. By the way, it’s not necessarily the opinion of this network or any other organization or any person on this planet, but I hope a few people join me. I mean he looks downright kind of, just sort of accommodating, some what silly and I kind of like the tenor of it all in Los Angeles. It’s sort of fits somehow, doesn’t it?
WIAN: Well it does, Lou, and I go to say that the other side has been accommodating as well, at least they have changed their tactics, the pro-illegal alien amnesty crowd. You see a lot more American flags at these marches…
DOBBS: Yes.
WIAN: … than you did last year and the year before, so they’ve changed as well, Lou.
DOBBS: Well and you know what, and as those groups get smaller, I think they’re started to say you know straightforwardly understand the nonsense of illegal aliens and their supporters demanding rights and demanding action. Those days are over. Somebody convinced them of that in 2006.
It was pretty clearly demonstrated to the demonstrators that isn’t going to work in this country. We’re going to proceed rationally and I think effectively and humanely toward a resolution, but we’re sure as heck not going to be putting up with demands from those who are seeking privileges. Casey, thank you very much. Let’s hope it’s all so reasonable and it looks like a beautiful day for a demonstration or anything else in the city of Los Angeles.
Thank you, sir.
WIAN: You’re welcome, Lou.
DOBBS: And by the way, anyone there celebrating Law Day? Did Chief Bratton mention it was Law Day?
WIAN: No, he didn’t. He left that out.
DOBBS: Oh, that’s a shame. Did mayor villaraigosa mention it was National Law Day? (editing by JustMyTruth)
WIAN: I haven’t heard a mention of Law Day in Los Angeles…
DOBBS: Oh…
WIAN: … outside of hearing you talk on our air, Lou.
DOBBS: That’s a shame. Because you know for 50 years May 1 has been Law Day in American, celebrating that we are a nation of laws. I can’t imagine how that got lost in that demonstration seeking amnesty for lawbreakers. Can you?
WIAN: Well, these people want the laws to stop being enforced in many cases. They’re saying we want ICE raids to stop. We want deportations to stop and we want the law changed. That’s their take on it.
DOBBS: You got it. Well happy, happy Law Day, Casey Wian in Los Angeles.
Most of today’s demonstrators wouldn’t know that today isn’t immigration day, but rather Law Day. It was President Eisenhower who first proclaimed law day in 1958, a day of national dedication to the principle of government under laws.
And let me repeat: WHY ARE ILLEGALS OR THEIR CRONIES IN THIS COUNTRY DEMANDING RIGHTS WHEN THEY SHOULD GO HOME TO THEIR COUNTRY AND DEMAND THEIR RIGHTS THERE! Because they have NO RIGHT to demand ANYTHING HERE! If you aren’t American, you aren’t getting any rights while I”m alive I promise you that!!! And if we find you, you are history!
Louise Schiavone has our Law Day report.
LOUISE SCHIAVONE, CNN CORRESPONDENT: May 1, immigration day? These demonstrators would have you believe that, but they’ve actually hijacked the date from the legal community.
WILLIAM NEUKOM, PRES., AMERICAN BAR ASSN.: Never enough people know that it’s Law Day.
SCHIAVONE: Who, truth be told with the help of President Eisenhower, snatched it from among others the communists who rolled out tanks and soldiers as a show of force on International Workers Day and before that…
REP. BRIAN BILBRAY (R), CALIFORNIA: Actually traditionally it has been one of the basic pagan holidays for a celebration of spring.
SCHIAVONE: Law Day has been expropriated plenty of times.
CHIEF JUDGE ROYCE LAMBERTH, U.S. DISTRICT COURT, D.C.: Right now it’s one issue. Five years from now, I don’t know what the issue will be, but I doubt if it will be immigration. It will be something else. And throughout all of this, 50 years, we’ve always come back to the rule of law, the importance of the rule of law, the importance of an independent judiciary.
SCHIAVONE: Which is what the American Bar Association was thinking when they pushed for Law Day a half century ago.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: We need to redouble our efforts to reach out to people who sort of take the law for granted.
SCHIAVONE: Not everyone is that philosophical.
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: Absolutely ironic that on Law Day that there are people in this country both legal and illegal who want to sort of damn the enforcement of law.
SCHIAVONE: Also ironic the fact that it’s Law Day appears to have gone virtually unnoticed by lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
SCHIAVONE: Lou, President Bush acknowledged Law Day with a proclamation, affirming the nation’s commitment to what he called a robust system of ordered liberty — Lou.
DOBBS: I like that. But I really don’t like the fact that this government, this administration, public schools across the country weren’t celebrating Law Day. Isn’t that remarkable?
SCHIAVONE: You know what? It’s not just Law Day May 1, all of May is law month. And one of the things that the ABA would like to see is the reinstitution of the teaching of civics, the teaching of actual American history in classrooms so that students really get to know what the laws are.
DOBBS: Now that would move us into National Education Day, wouldn’t it? It gets so confusing.
SCHIAVONE: I really am confused now.
DOBBS: We’re going to straighten out one confusion. You know what? This broadcast, we’re going to celebrate the entire month of May — we’re going to make that our job to honor the law as law month, the month of May. We hope you’ll join us.
Louise Schiavone, thank you very much.
We called, by the way, because I got a little upset about the fact that people weren’t paying attention to the fact that this is and has been for 50 years Law Day in America, which no one but this broadcast seems to want to celebrate, so we called other news networks and we asked them how they planned to cover Law Day.
Perhaps you won’t be surprised to learn they were simply baffled by our question. In point of fact those other networks that returned our call didn’t seem to be aware that today is Law Day. This despite the fact that President Bush as we reported actually remembered to issue a proclamation today celebrating what is the 50th anniversary of Law Day in America. Happy Law Day.
Time now for our poll. The question is: Do you believe our fellow citizens know that today is Law Day, a day of national dedication to the principle of government under law?
And by the way, it’s written into our law that this is Law Day. We would love to hear from you on this.
Yes or no? You’re cast your vote at loudobbs.com. We’ll have the results upcoming.
And much more on today’s pro amnesty protests during Law Day, including the marchers’ blatant efforts to influence our presidential campaign on Law Day.
Lisa Sylvester will have our report — Lisa.
LISA SYLVESTER, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Lou, protesters marched to the Democratic and Republican headquarters in Washington, D.C. demanding amnesty. We’ll tell you what happened — Lou.
DOBBS: Look forward to it, Lisa. Thank you.
Also pro illegal alien activists refusing to acknowledge some of this country’s most fundamental values. We’ll have that report.
And you won’t believe what one city in Connecticut is doing to undermine this nation’s laws. We’ll have a live report for you from New Haven, Connecticut. Stay with us. We’re coming right back.
DOBBS: Today’s amnesty rallies sponsored by open borders and amnesty advocate special interest groups all hoping to catch the attention of the presidential candidates among others and all three of the principle candidates, Senators Clinton, Obama and McCain they supported the so-called comprehensive immigration reform bill that was killed in Congress just last summer. Today’s demonstrators on Law Day are working toward their long-term goal, which is to set the amnesty agenda for the next administration and Congress.
Lisa Sylvester has our report.
SYLVESTER: The crowd was much, much smaller than years past. Slightly more than a dozen people protested outside the headquarters of the Democratic and Republican Parties in Washington. A later rally had a couple hundred people, pushing for nothing less than amnesty.
You know what sameer dossani you and your illegal friends and family can go back to whatever country you hail from and demand your rights there! Go back to wherever you came from and see what this kind of behavior will get you. One can only hope with your blatant abuses of our good graces here in the United States of America that you realize how good you have it and back off before you get something you don’t want, tougher immigration LAWS. Get out of this country you don’t have any appreciation for and see just how many rights you can lay your hands on in your country of origin. But you aren’t going to get what you want here. No way! And you are just pissing off Americans with getting in our faces. You keep it up boy. We’ll be happy to deport your ass.
sameer dossani, DEMONSTRATOR: An end to the raids, an end to the deportations, legalization and amnesty for all.
SYLVESTER: The group sent a letter to the three presidential candidates asking them to support a pathway to citizenship for as many as 20 million illegal aliens in the United States. In fact, all three senators, John McCain, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama already support granting amnesty for some. Obama stumping for votes in North Carolina.
I told you these Candidates didn’t deserve the office they were running for. Do you understand now why we can’t elect these fools? Vote for Ron Paul. He has more sense than these fools ever will. HELL NO MAKE THEM GO! HELL NO MAKE THEM GO! HELL NO MAKE THEM GO!
SEN. BARACK OBAMA (D-IL), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: Let’s give them a pathway so they become — they can have some legal status. It might take 10 years, but at least then they have got some prospect, some hope. (HELL NO MAKE THEM GO, JUSTMYTRUTH)
SYLVESTER: North Carolina, next up on the primary list, has seen an explosion of (ILLEGAL) immigrant growth. It now ranks in the top five states, but one group advocating for stricter illegal immigration enforcement says the three candidates just don’t get it, how filling jobs with illegal workers displaces and hurts Americans.
ROY BECK, NUMBERS USA: I believe all three of them are fundamentally blind to what it’s like to be a working class person in this country, what it’s like to be a roofer or a dry-waller, to work in these occupations that are flooded by foreign workers. They do not feel the pain that these workers our lower middle class workers are feeling.
SYLVESTER: All three candidates share roughly the same position on immigration, one reason they’re not jumping to talk about it on the campaign trail.
SYLVESTER: Senator John McCain has said he supports border security first unlike the Democratic candidates, but McCain’s fundamental position still mirrors the comprehensive immigration bill that failed in Congress last year, that included more funding for border security, building a southern border fence and a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens. Lou?
HELL NO MAKE THEM GO! HELL NO MAKE THEM GO! HELL NO MAKE THEM GO!
DOBBS: Lisa, thank you very much.
It’s worth noting on this Law Day that our system of laws is a major part of what makes us the most welcoming nation for immigrants in the entire world. More than a million people from all over the world became legal permanent residents of the United States last year. Of the top three countries in the world sending us their immigrants, 14 percent of them came from Mexico.
These are legal immigrants. Seven percent from China and six percent from the Philippines. The United States also issued another almost half million visas last year to people who simply want to live here legally while working and more than six million people were granted non immigrant visas to temporarily study and to work in the United States.
Now that is not something you hear on other broadcasts, other networks and other news organizations. And you sure don’t hear it from people who took to the streets today to protest against this nation’s immigration policies. Look at those people and think about what they’re protesting.
That the most welcoming nation in the entire world, with more legal immigrants entering the United States than the rest of the world combined is not adequate for their wishes. That’s a shame. And that’s a little bit of what I would call an attitude problem. Up next, New Haven, Connecticut, home to Yale University, liberal elitism and other stuff that happens at Yale. Tonight, under fire for its pro amnesty agenda, we’ll talk you live to New Haven next.
And thousands taking to the streets to demonstrate against the laws of this nation, as we hear on this broadcast and we hope you celebrate today as Law Day. We’ll talk about that and a lot more with three of the sharpest political analysts in the country. That’s next.
The absolute ungratefulness of these people who live and work here who are LEGAL citizens and are demanding that we, the United States of America allow criminals into our country, who demand we cease enforcing our laws, laws that keep us safe and secure, they have some nerve. This will start a revolution in this country, but it won’t be the one the illegals want. It won’t be one for amnesty I guarantee you that! We’ll make it so hot for illegals! We’ll start asking those who don’t speak English to show us their green cards and ANYONE who doesn’t, we’ll call ICE on them and they can be deported. That’s just fine by me. These people are making it so the rest of Americans who don’t feel as they do are getting MADDER! We’re feeling a lot of anger towards these groups who think they can demand anything for criminals. Watch out, the boiling point is coming.
Now, don’t mistake anger at these actions for hatred of race. THAT is not happening. But to demand we cease to enforce OUR laws is absolutely ridiculous! You are fools and worse! You are making it harder on your illegal friends and relatives and you don’t even know it. I guess I have to say thank you for that!
The rest of the program will be in my next post.

1) I’m as ‘merican as you are, at least. Probably more so, as I believe in the principles of freedom, dignity, and self-determination upon which this country was formed. BTW, where did your ancestors come from? Unless you’re Cherokee, Mohawk, or Inuit, don’t give me any of this “go home” crap. Your ancestors stole this land from its inhabitants and to this day don’t respect the laws that you signed regarding native treaty rights. If there’s a case against illegal immigration, it should be based on the actions of your ancestors.
2) May Day was re-declared “law day” by Ronald Reagan in March 1986 (it’s earlier incarnation was the during the McCarthy red baiting era), right after the Reagan Administration decided they were above the law when it came to war crimes. Hopefully you possess enough intelligence to see the irony of that.
3) The events of May Day (the real May Day, May 1 1886) happened right here in the U.S.A. and gave ordinary people luxuries like the eight hour workday and the weekend. Why should we want to turn our backs on our own history? See my latest blog posts if you’re interested in finding out more.
4) I really don’t understand why Ron Paul supporters should be in favor of borders. Adam Smith and other genuine libertarians were totally against borders. They argued that free markets first and foremost entailed the free movement of people. If you’re against the “guvmint” surely you must be against the government locking up economic refugees…
5) I think the hatred in this post is really instructive. No human being is “illegal”. Existence is not a crime. When U.S. foreign policy (dirty CIA wars in Central America and coercive trade and privatization policies in Mexico, Africa, and Asia) create a tide of economic refugees, of course those refugees will end up on U.S. shores (and European shores, BTW). You want to change that, get rid of the CIA’s military interventions, stop the military occupation of Iraq, Afghanistan and Haiti, and stop the economic occupation of the rest of the world. That’s the only sensible way to deal with the global migration crisis.
1)My ancestors came from Switzerland and immigrated to this country LEGALLY. That is the whole point of this post. Those who immigrate LEGALLY are very welcome in this country. It is the ILLEGALS we don’t want as they violate the Sovereignty of the United States. See the definition of Legal vs. Illegal immigrants. Their country is a source of drugs, violence, hatred and other very unsavory acts. They should fix their problems before they come here and demand it of US!
2)May day is 3,000 years old and is pagan in origin. The Christians, the Presidents, etc. have all stolen it. Why should I care what you think about WHERE Law day comes from? You are still advocating for the ability of those who break the laws of the USA to get AMNESTY! NO WAY! Shall we give amnesty to murderers?
3)Wrong again bucko! Boy, are you bad on History! See above. And yes, I’m very intelligent. Those who immigrate here LEGALLY will always be welcome! I don’t know that I am interested in viewing your blog considering who’s side of the fence you are on…And my understanding is Edger Hoover was the originator of the Law Day. Funny, that on a celebration of LAWS we have those here celebrating the fact that they are here ILLEGALLY! And your argument that an Irony makes it OK for illegals means what to me?
4)We want our borders secure so that we aren’t over-run by those who live off us, our social services meant for OUR people, our land, AND cost us jobs, cost the taxpayers money, cost the hospitals and other medical professionals so much in none-paid bills that 9 hospitals closed in LA alone. So much for free enterprise. Seems that so long as you just get what you want it is all ok with you. But you aren’t the one hurt by all this and I have NO pity for those here illegally. The congregate like rats in holes, bring in diseases, and can’t even be bothered to learn ENGLISH.
5)you mistake anger for hatred. Something I was very open about in that post. You illegal lovers always want to make this an emotional issue, either we are racists or we hold so much hatred…Either way, it is all about emotional blackmail to you. I’m not buying this one.
Nor am I responsible for what the CIA has done in any country! I do not torture.
As I’ve said before, these people should go HOME and fix their own country first before they come here demanding we fix ours. Until then, until Mexico fixes THEIR ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION POLICIES, DO NOT Tell me how I feel or what I think. And DO NOT blame me for what I have no control over. These people, be they black, white, hispanic or oriental can either come here legally, in which case I’ll defend their right to be here to the death, or they can go home or go to jail. This is NOT my fault, it is theirs. I didn’t say HUMANS are illegal. Damn you guys like to twist things around! They only become illegals when they cross the borders ILLEGALLY! Nor did I mention Hati in my post. And yes, I still do want to stop the flood of illegals into this country. And you being a bleeding heart doesn’t change my mind ONE BIT. This is still about LAWS. They want to come here they can apply like the rest of the world. America takes in over 100,000 LEGAL immigrants a year.
And again, I notice you have to call me a racist in order to make your point. So maybe I’ll call you one back since you only seem to be talking hispanics here and not the other nationalities of illegals that are streaming into the country…
Ok, this is fun. Let’s play
Um, which country is this we’re talking about? The vast majority of undocumented immigrants in the U.S. come from Mexico, so let’s say for the sake of argument you’re talking about that country… Drugs… hmm, no not really. Most of the heroin in the European market is coming from Afghanistan these days, after the U.S. reinstated the drug economy there. Most of the cocaine in the U.S. comes from the South American countries of Colombia, Venezuela, & Bolivia - not countries from which a lot of undocumented immigrants originate. Most of the marijuana in the U.S. is domestically produced.
Violence and hatred, eh? Well if we’re still talking about Mexico, half of what now constitutes the United States is land stolen from Mexico during the Mexican American War. Can’t get much more violent than that. Hatred? In the country of slavery, Jim Crow, Native American genocide? Pots, kettles, anyone?
2) Hmm, interesting that “May Day” has ancient origins, but maybe not that relevant. I was referring to the fact that all over the world May Day today is celebrated as a day of solidarity with U.S. workers. All over the world except by U.S. workers ourselves. Kinda pathetic.
3)
Um, hate to break it to you, but the U.S. healthcare system is about the most inefficient imaginable. Waste built into the system costs between $50-$100 billion per year. Congress estimates that undocumented folks abusing the system may cast as much as $2.2 billion per year. Furthermore, millions of U.S. residents don’t have any health coverage at all. So what’s the bigger problem - the fact that some folks are using a system that they’re not entitled to use (cause they got no choice), the fact that the system itself is the least efficient and most costly in the world or the fact that there are millions of people who aren’t receiving any kind of health care at all and are therefore putting our health care indicators right next to some of those third world countries you think so fondly of?
4) A country that does not respect other people’s borders should not expect its own borders to be secure. Stop the imperialism and I promise you people would much rather stay in their own communities than take arduous and dangerous trips through the desert to do shit jobs a million miles away from their families, just to send $10 a week back home so that their kids can afford to go to school or so that their sister can get married. This is not a life anyone would choose.
5) Your post is filled with racist generalizations. The line I quoted at the beginning of this is another one. I talk about mexico and central america because that’s where the vast majority of undocumented migrants are coming from. You want to talk about other places? How about the Philippines, where the U.S. killed a million people between 1898-1901, supported a dictatorship after World War II, and now has the country in an economic stranglehold? How about the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where a CIA assassination of Lumumba in 1961 plunged the country into a civil war that has effectively never ended and from where people are still fleeing? It’s time to ask some tough questions about the policies of this country; only then will you have any hope of stopping the flow of desperate souls searching for their human dignity. My article on this subject is here.
Most any of the countries mentioned I’ve mentioned. Such as Ireland, England, Japan, China, or MEXICO. I’m not just speaking about Mexico though you seem DETERMINED to take it that route. Considering the violence of the street gang MS-13 and other sources, I’d say that was pretty violent. Then you have the coyotes that prey on their human cargo. And why do you jump countries in order to make a point? You can’t stay on this side of the ocean to make it? Now you have to jump to Europe? I didn’t. That argument is irrelevant to this discussion. And most of the cocaine coming into this country is coming THROUGH Mexico. It may be imported from somewhere else, but the drug cartels are making sure it gets here. And according to the link you left, it plainly says that most of the marijuana comes from and is grown in Mexico. Sheesh, do you read your own links?
About the part where the U.S. SUPPOSEDLY stole half our country from Mexico? Unless you can back that up with documentation it is irrelevant to this discussion. What happened or did not happen way back when cannot be proven by either one of us. Stay on topic here and don’t be throwing out accusations without merit.
Regardless of the healthcare systems being broken, it does matter that there are almost 20 million ILLEGALS taking advantage of it. Yes, it does. Tell them to go home and take advantage of their healthcare system. Nor did I say I was fond of it. I said we, the tax-payer, don’t need to be paying for their medical care. They have a country, let them use their own. If we aren’t wasting our social services on people who shouldn’t be here, we might have it for those who currently DON’T have it. We all know it is broken right now, they are just adding to the burden. They don’t deserve freebies if they don’t owe allegiance to THIS country. Stay on topic. You are too used to going off on tangents.
I write consistently about that border issues and have nothing good to say about the bush administration. Far as I am concerned he is a war criminal, torturer, and a whole lot of other things. I will not defend the government on some of those issues. However, you are going OFF TOPIC AGAIN! We are talking about our southern border in this discussion. Not one in Iraq or anywhere else.
There you go again off topic and on a tangent. For a supposed smart guy, you just can’t stay on topic and have a decent conversation. As for my remarks, typos happen. I noticed one in my last reply to you. Or maybe it was more than that. It happens. You, however, cannot stay ON TOPIC. My remarks do not preach violence or hatred. They may be angry, but there is neither hatred nor racism there. You are wrong. I am careful about what I write. Sometimes I sit on things precisely because I get emotional about them. But I am neither racist nor speaking hate here. Anger at a situation does not equate violence against a person or ethnic origins.
By the way, Mexico’s President, Philip Calderon said at a speech he gave at the Institute for Mexicans Abroad: Calderon said he admires the courage and bravery of his countrymen to risk it all to go to a land that is not theirs. You can find that quote on the CNN’s Lou Dobbs transcript dated 4-23-08.
Even the President of Mexico admits that the United States belongs to the United States…
Sameer Dossani,
This blog is not your blog. When you can post a comment instead of your article, I’ll be happy to answer you. Until then, your post will not be allowed.
I posted the article cause you obviously didn’t read it when I linked to it earlier. Please do and then maybe you’ll begin to understand why U.S. foreign policy isn’t irrelevant - in fact it’s the most important piece of the puzzle. The other part of my post was about your racism
Shall we dissect? Ungratefulness? Let’s take specific cases instead of the arbitrary and fictitious bogeyman that you refer to as “illegal immigrants”. I have very close friends who fled El Salvador after the CIA assassination of Archbishop Romero. They barely escaped death themselves, traveled thousands of miles through the desert, ended up in New York cleaning toilets (when they had advanced degrees) and then faced arbitrary detentions and threats of deportation until they were able to clear up their status. So this country killed their priest, nearly started a civil war, forced them to migrate, gave them shit jobs and nearly deported them after all that - and for that you want them to be grateful?
“allow criminals into our country”. Most of the criminals who end up here were invited here, usually after spending years on the CIA payroll. Migration fleeing economic or political hardships is not a crime according to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, to which the U.S. is a signatory.
“laws that keep us safe and secure”. keep who safe and secure? The 1/3 of the Black male population that’s in prison? Native Americans who again have been denied their treaty rights (which happen to be laws as well). Law doesn’t keep the U.S. safe and secure; justice might if it were applied. Again, back to foreign policy. Undo NAFTA, and CAFTA if you’re seriously interested in “stopping dem illegals”.
“ask them all to show their greencards”. Great, I remember reading stories about a country where everyone had to keep their identity documents in their pocket or risk being taken off to concentration camps. No human being is illegal. This narrow minded xenophobia has got to stop. The U.S. has been using up the world’s resources at an unbelievable pace (we’re about 6% of the global population and consume about 50% of world’s consumption), at the expense of other countries. Sooner or later we’re going to have to pay the piper, and if we’re not willing to treat other countries with justice, naturally we’re going to swamped with refugees. Don’t like it, then try to get your government to act with justice towards other countries. given the option, i promise you people would rather stay at home. There’s no place like it
You are right, I didn’t read your article. I don’t have to. You are commenting on mine. I already don’t agree with foreign policy in this country. Had you read anything else I’d written about this you might figure that out, but you chose this article to post on and nothing else. Your passion gets in the way of logic and perspective.
I do not call illegals bogymen. I call them ILLEGALS. A bogyman is something to be feared and I do not fear these people. I simply don’t want them here. Were they to go home and come to this country LEGALLY I would welcome them and defend their right to be here.
While I am sorry about your friends, I am neither responsible for nor agreeing with, CIA policies. Had you read anything ELSE I wrote, you might figure that out. I cannot be held responsible for policies I don’t agree with. That is not my fault.
Nor is anyone disputing with you the corruption that is rampant in our Justice system or this administration and several others before that. But, that doesn’t give your illegal friends rights they don’t have or a free pass into this society. You are again going off topic and bringing in things that do not pertain to this discussion. There are people working on this issue of releasing those who have been imprisoned and are innocent. But again, that is not the issue here. The issue is illegal aliens in this country who have broken laws that are existing here in the United States of America.
Better those here on Visa keep their identification handy than Americans being pressed for “papers.” I stand for American Citizens having rights, not the illegal population.
And again with the name calling. You resort to that to justify your position. I am not a xenophobic. I’m all for those entering this country LEGALLY! You are the one calling names that do not pertain to me or anyone like me. It is your weapon against logic and truth. Why don’t you read my latest article? Nope, your comments are off topic and continue to resort to name calling and innuendo to make your point. Not valid.
And again you go off topic with use of world resources. You need to focus more. You are slipping. China is fast becoming as much a resource user as we are and India not far behind that. Get a grip. The issue is illegal aliens in the United States of America. Do people always let you get away with this stuff? That is their bad. Baffle them with bullshit is not working here.
Sameer said: “Most of the criminals who end up here were invited here, usually after spending years on the CIA payroll.”
And the rest we elected into office. Trust me, the people are fed up and we WILL take back our control.
However, we are not talking about former CIA criminals being here; the topic is about those people who overstay their visas, or sneak across our borders. With all the talk about terrorism and safety from the powers that be, you have to wonder what exactly they mean when they have no problem with our open borders.
People who claim to be after a better life but willing to work for employers who don’t want to pay the minimum wage, to hell with a living wage end up hurting the citizens here by 1: taking away the jobs we could do for a decent salary; 2: by lowering salaries even further.
We need to go after those employers to be honest. As a matter of fact, the easiest solution would be to make hiring any illegal a felony offense, same with landlords. That alone would cut down on people crossing the borders illegally. With no jobs available to them and no proper housing they’d have no reason to risk life and limb so they could demand we change OUR laws and culture to suit them.
Sameer said: “Migration fleeing economic or political hardships is not a crime”
I agree, and most people around the globe do that legally. There’s the right way to do something and the wrong way. So why do you, Sameer, defend the wrong way? Every other country on this planet has immigration laws and they strictly enforce them. So why is it that WE are not allowed to? Why is it assumed that America, a land of laws, is suddenly supposed to have NO immigration laws? These laws have been in place for quite some time and for the most part worked.
What amazes me the most is how these Mexican Nationals cross our borders illegally, then publically march to demand rights of citizens. IF they fled their own country for economic reasons, etc, why did they not use this energy to march and demand that their own country and government do something about conditions there? I’ll tell you why……….because their own government wouldn’t tolerate it, so can you imagine what Mexico’s stand on illegals crossing their Southern Border must be like? Just because we welcome all doesn’t mean there aren’t rules to follow.
Now, I’m all for people coming here, hell my own mother immigrated here………..LEGALLY. But this new breed of people crossing our borders not only cross our borders illegally they then DEMAND we speak their language, make NO effort to learn the language that is prevalent in this country, change OUR culture to more resemble the one they just fled, the list of expectations is amazing. They come here supposedly for a better way of living yet insist on bringing their way of life here and maintaining it. THAT makes no sense to me.
So, if I cross over into Mexico or any other country, illegally, I can expect to be welcomed with open arms, have everyone there know English or provide me with translators and bi-lingual store clerks, and afford me all the same rights and privileges of the National born citizens of that country. Right? No? Well then why the hell are you demanding that the United States be a free-for-all?
And before you try calling ME racist………..rest assured that I’m not, the greater majority of my boyfriends in my life, and my friends in general, have been of different races, nationalities, religions, etc. I’m the least racist person I know. And I’d like to point out that it is NOT my fault that the majority of illegals today happen to be from Mexico. That is not being racist, it’s stating a fact, at least here in the Southwest it is. And I would feel the same if they were whites from Ireland!
Immigration laws are in place for several reasons, one of them being that each country really can only sustain so many people.
So it beggers the question: WHAT is your problem with rules and laws? I’m taking a shot here, judging from your own blog that you or your ancestors also immigrated here. I’m assuming you/they did so legally, in which case, do you really feel it is perfectly ok to give illegals a free pass knowing what you and/or your ancestors went through to immigrate here? I know quite a few immigrants and they are as incensed with the demand for a ‘free pass’ as anyone else….they feel it is a slap in their face since they spent the time and money to do legally.
DAMN! Very well said! Thank you for pointing out the obvious here. I was having far too much trouble dealing with the off-topic stuff. You really nailed this one down. Thank you so much for posting on this issue!
justmytruth said: “I am neither responsible for nor agreeing with, CIA policies. ”
Nobody is saying you are responsible for CIA policies. It is simply a matter that these policies have contributed and are contributing to the rate of migration into this country. One cannot have a sensible discussion about human migration without looking at its causes.
justmytruth said: “And again you go off topic with use of world resources.”
Actually, this is supremely ON topic. This is really getting at the heart of why people leave one place and move to another. People come to the US because there is money here; lots of it. And why is there so much wealth here? Because we use more of the world’s resources than anybody else. Again, to have an intelligent conversation about immigration, legal or otherwise, it is really important to understand its causes.
swfreedomlover said: “why did they not use this energy to march and demand that their own country and government do something about conditions there? I’ll tell you why……….because their own government wouldn’t tolerate it,”
You might be right, but I tend to think they don’t demand their rights at home, because if they were at home, they would be too concerned with getting food to feed their families to demand their rights. People leave their homes for money. You can’t demand your rights if your main focus is not starving.
No problem, you were too focused about his going off topic and that showed the most in your last reply to him/her. Sometimes when issues are this emotional you have to step back and think it through. Not always easy, I know, I’m forever shooting off my mouth in an emotional or passionate when……..hehehehehe
Zain Dossani,
While I let this post through I have to tell you that we will just have to agree to disagree. One of the great things about America. Call a rose by any other name and it is still a rose. Now you want to take this to human migration? It is still the fact that these people have come to USA soil illegally. End of story… There just is no defense of that. You can go all over the map, but the laws are the laws.
You and the other Dossani just keep blaming this ILLEGAL activity on everything but the, in this case, Mexican government. It is all bullshit. I’ve read about the land in Mexico that can support families growing the food they use and need. There have been a number of PBS programs lately on just this. Your human migration theory, without any links to show yes or no on being correct, don’t wash here. These are people coming here for the American Dream while driving OUR wages down and costs up. No, they are still NOT welcome until they come here LEGALLY! Resources and land mass are just fine in Mexico.
As for money and lots of it? Because of these ILLEGALS, wages are down, the cost of living is up, jobs for and Americans are scarce. Go tell the guy who just lost his job of 15 years, has a mortgage and 4 kids that this is ok because we have to allow for illegals less fortunate than he is to understand why he lost his job, (cheaper labor from illegals) and can’t afford to feed his family. Ask him how HE feels. Or the single mom raising her kids alone because her hubby isn’t in the picture any more and because she is white, speaks English, and can get a job, even jobs that don’t pay a living wage, why she shouldn’t be angry about ILLEGALS wanting a piece of the pie. It just isn’t OK!
What you *think* and what the people of Mexico *think* that come here illegally doesn’t much matter to me. I’m done on this discussion because it isn’t going anywhere. Just round and round. No more messages will be allowed by a Dossoni. We’ll just have to agree to disagree.
At least you didn’t call me any names, thank you!
Zain Dossani said: “I tend to think they don’t demand their rights at home, because if they were at home, they would be too concerned with getting food to feed their families to demand their rights.”
While that might be true, I just see you playing an “emotional” blackmail (guilt) card. If they haven’t got the time or energy to demand their own government stop cheating its citizens, where do they have the energy and time to risk life and limb crossing our borders illegally just to risk traipsing through the desert? Seriously, nice try, but I’ve become immune to those emotional blackmail cards as they have been so over-used for every special interest and special interest group out there, that I no longer have any guilt left to spare.
Anyone is welcome here, just do it legally. Is that really asking for too much? Is it really hatred to ask that the laws of our country be respected and honored; just as I would be expected to respect and honor the laws of their country were I to go there?
Look at it another way. I break into your home, I clean it for you, I cook for you, all I want is for you to let me stay there. You don’t want me to stay there though as you don’t really want a cleaner or cook. But I don’t want to go I demand the right to stay because it is better for me to stay with you. Will you let me stay? If so, where do you live, I’ll be right over.
I have to agree with JMT…..we will have to agree to disagree. Being a direct descendant of a LEGAL immigrant, I just can’t agree with you fully.
We either have NO immigration laws OR everyone has to respect the laws. You can’t have it both ways.
Im a chicken grower in Ok. Anybody that dont or wont speak english dont need tobe here in the U.S.A. abide by our laws or go home Im fed up if elected peaple cant do what the American people want maybe we handle it ourself?
I hear you! As a matter of fact Congress did pass a law in 2007 which made English the national language of this country.
http://www.votesmart.org/issue_keyvote_detail.php?cs_id=13888&can_id=9490
That’s another law I’d love to see enforced!
Thanks for posting!
